I ordered, and have been waiting on parts for the nighthawk. Should be here next week.
I have been riding the Vino a good bit lately. 160 miles on Docs cyl kit so far, and It is still a blast! This afternoon I finally got tired of the stutter just off Idle, and in between rides I adjusted the carb. It is much better now, and top speed is up to 44.78 mph @ 7800 RPM. I put the 5 gram sliders back in first thing this morning, they seem to work the best in this setup so far. I cannot get the RPM's to go any higher, I guess because of the stock exhaust. I may try mixing 4g and 5G sliders again to see if it will rev higher, but I think going any lighter with the weights will not compress the contra spring all the way.

maybe I need to get tuned pipes too... heh Tuned pipes take a bit away from the bottom, but they pay you back double at the top end. The Vino is so lightweight, it can spare loosing some of the low end and you will barely notice it.

Its been a long time since I visited this thread and many miles have been put on this build without much of anything being done to this scoot besides tires, belt and a clutch or two. (my buddy destroys clutches in short order) The no name 70cc cylinder I put on this 7 years ago has been great, it came from a long lost member here named Doc. My buddy and I had just left Scootopia and the Vino cut off on him, we kicked it a bit and compression seemed low to me so the scoot rode back to the shop in the van. We cleared off the lift and put the Vino on it. Checked spark and plug, good. Checked fuel, good. Checked compression, NO good only about 60 We started taking panels and shrouds off so we could pull the head to take a look. This is what we found. It appears to have leaned out but I am not sure what caused it to. Noticed the o ring in the head has a gap in it, may have been leaking there. The piston is missing a chunk between the ring lands and the top is ever so slightly caved in. And strangely the stock metal reed is chipped. Not sure which problem happened first. Here is its current state. I feel like the crank and bearings are good, we flushed the cases out, didn't see anything wash out. A new piston and cylinder hone should work, but my buddy thinks we should upgrade!

Slap a new kit on it You know you want too Cut some new carbon fiber reeds and she would be good for a bunch more years .

Maybe that piece of the reed valve that is missing caused the piston & cylinder damage... I have seen many original metal reeds braking and causing engine damage... I always try to avoid using the original metal reeds as they are sometimes like a ticking time bomb.

I have tucked this scooter away for now. I dont want it to stall my current project scoot, I cant afford to spend any time or $$ on it right now. My buddy will just have to stick to riding his Harley for now. It sure was nice weather last night. We we thinking how nice it would be to ride but I only have one running scoot ATM.

Reeds should be tight.. I have seen MANY of the stock Phenolic Plastic Reed Cages warp from heat..and the Reeds don't seat properly. That is why I get the aluminum cages that have a vulcanized rubber coating..they seal well and don't seem to warp as easy.. Yeah, at least I noticed it before I ended up having trouble with it. moofus02 is going to hook me up cheap (thanks man) with one that is hopefully in better condition than mine. You can see from the picture above it is not a standard reed cage, and I cannot find an aftermarket one for it ANYWHERE! I can still get a stock new one from Yamaha if worse come to worse. Pretty crazy to think this still hasn't been rectified in 6 yrs now. No one makes aftermarket reed cages for the Vino, STILL. I also ended up having to just buy a stock new one.
