Got the machine out for a good run today. Found out the speedometer is reading about 10 mph too high (at 30 mph it's reading 40). Can these things be calibrated? I could take it to the dealer I suppose. Is this something that's adjustable?

All speedo's are designed to read over by about 10% scooter just tend to be much worse that most cars.

No way to calibrate them that I know of. Most either get used to what's really what or buy an accurate speedometer like a Sigma bicycle speedometer, Trail Tech, Stage6, Koso, etc...

I stopped by the dealer and got the same response (can't calibrate). I'll probably get a sigma speedo ($20 from amazon) and find a way to neatly mount it on the scoot so it looks nice. Save for it being a bit chilly outside, I'm really liking the machine. It's a lot of fun to drive, and I'm much more alert on that thing than I am driving in the car.

The good habits of the scooter will carry over into the car at least to some degree, or they did for me anyway. Many here have said that the roads would be a safer place if everyone had to ride a scoot or 2-wheeler before having a car.

Heh. I think the thing for me at this time is that it's much more active, so it keeps my brain engaged in what's going on. But there's also just more you need to keep track of on a scoot, so yeah, I can see where it'll start to stick when driving a regular auto.

I don't believe CVK is a brand. CV is Constant Velocity. That's the kind of carbs that these engines use. The K I'm not sure if that came from Keihin (maybe just ripped off... look at the ripoff kinda name on the carb in your link too) or what.
At any rate, I think about any of the carbs you'll find for these with the plastic tops will be OK. Not sure why, but it seems a lot of us have had better luck with the plastic capped carbs than metal capped. I don't think it has anything to do with the cap itself, but prob something with the manufacturers using certain caps... or maybe we just like 'em and it's all in our heads?
The stock carb is a CV or CVK, Keihin is a CVK, and pretty much any other replacement you find is gonna be CV or CVK. As long as you stick with 18-19mm carbs like these, they should all use Keihin 5mm main jets.

Thanks for the info. And yeah, you're correct (google for the win). I hadn't heard of a CVK carb before, I saw the CVK stamp on the side and figured it was a manufacturer logo rather than a designation of what the thing is (none of the ebay or listings on the scoot sale sites listed the brand unless Keihin). Well, my derp moment of the day is done

Ok, so ordered a new carb w/ 85 jets already installed.
It's at 100km, so I went ahead and did an oil change and the gear oil too. The instruction manual for the 2013 model said oil capacity is .9 l, and I assume 110 ml for the gearbox.
So another noob question. How do you tell when the gearbox oil is full? I squeezed a few times, pulled the bottle end out of the hole and oil poured back out, so I assume it's full at least. Any danger in overfill on the gearbox?

I check the bottle to make sure I've got 110-120ml in there. Too much and it'll spill out as you saw. Even if you manage to overfill it without it spilling out, it'll work it;s way out of a vent.

Got the new carb installed and did valve adjustment. Manual says .003 to .005 so I tried the ,003 intake and .004 exhaust. Engine tapped like mad, so rechecked the .003 and moved exhaust to .003 as well and engine's back running smooth. Right now, it seems to be running on the rich side w/ the new jets, so I have some tuning to do, but so far so good. I haven't killed the engine yet Right now my biggest concern is finding some warmer clothing since the weather's turning cold. As a side note, a big thanks to everyone here. The community is great.

So valves are staying pretty much solid (had the engine apart yesterday). With the new carb it seems to take a bit longer to warm up, but no real down sides. Runs about on par as with the original carb, just not as lean.
One thing which did worry me is the scoot developed a bit of an odd rattle. Found the cause of that today. The rear stand comes up against part of the muffler mount when up, so at certain RPM's it makes a pretty nasty sound clanging together. I'm going to put some high temp duct tape around the stand to quiet that down. Other than that, it's been pretty solid so far.
One thing which may be of help to people, the back light assembly bolts on, though there's really not enough room for the nuts on the bottom. A soldering iron can be used to melt / reshape the plastic of the reflector so that the nut has plenty of room, at least this was a problem w/ my scoot.
