Has anyone tried using a timing advancing woodruff key? I ordered one with my crank just to have incase the new motor wanted some more timing. The cylinder, 5mm base plate and studs are on the way along with all the bearings.

I've only elongated the stator plate mounts so it can be rotated. Same effect, just free and more adjustable. A few degrees of advance has worked well on most of mine. After I advanced the first couple of setups I wondered why I had passed it off as something that wouldn't be worth the time in the past.

Cool. Thanks Brent. I've thought about doing the stator holes also just figured I throw the key on the order to give it a shot.

From my experiences some scoots with OEM ignitions like the timing advanced some dont. Depends on the set-up and what you need out of it. As well as what the OEM flywheel is set at from the factory. For instance, with Minarelli,s i see some at 15degrees some at 13

Thanks Robert. When the motor is together I'll put a light on it and do some testing. I haven't noticed any timing marks though so did I miss them or how would I know degrees of advance?

There are no timing marks on it. You'll need to mark TDC and setup a pointer. There's no certain spot you have to make a TDC mark on the flywheel or fan or whatever, just as long as it's aligned spot on with whatever pointer you come up with. It can be a paperclip for a pointer and a mark on the flywheel or some of us have even put a mark on the fan and a mark on the shroud. That's prob not the most accurate way over time since the fan/shroud could move a little, but it gets the job done pretty quick and prob as accurate as needed.

Excellent info. Thanks again Brent!

Got my cylinder, spacer, bearings, a shorter stem and some packing today. Attachments:

In the first pic it's easy to see where the case transfers need to be matched to the spacer which is an exact fit to the Racing MKII cylinder. You can also see where the boast port needs a little matching. I'll have to do some more studying on the less obvious stuff. Trenching and the odd corner between the intake and transfer area. Thoughts, ideas and opinions welcome.

You can also see where the boast port needs a little matching. That port is just for bragging rights. Don't worry about it. Sorry, had to. Anyway, you can find case work/trenching pics in some of our builds threads. When I first did one I went real easy on it and never used epoxy. It's easier just to fill the back side with JB Weld (or your favorite appropriate epoxy), let it cure, and go for it.

Haha Brent. That was funny! I get all excited about parts and lose any grammar I may have had. I did back fill the cases a week or so ago. Not sure I'll go that deep but I wanted it there just incase.

Should I be keeping a slope in the transfer up to the crank or down to the cylinder?

Looks a lot like a 90cc+ base gasket port layout..Like Brent said, epoxy the back sides before cutting, then a 'cut thru' wont be a problem.. I made up a simple degree wheel and attached it to the fan cover, found TDC and marked the fan, kinda like this test using a KX85 iggy adapted to a Mina engine; vid639.photobucket.com/albums/uu112/190mech/KXMinaIGcurve.mp4

The second page of this thread trenching pictures is a go to page for me. All the info contained in it is posted elsewhere in the forum, but it is all together in this thread. Very good examples of what needs to be done IMO. EDIT: Uhhh I see Brent just posted the link before me...He types a lot faster than I do!
