I agree that it's probably the float. I adjusted mine incorrectly once and had the same problem. There is a gasket in the carb that should stop the fuel from coming out, but it usually never does when there is a float problem. The pressure from the tank is just over bearing on the little gasket. Also, it does seem possible that there could be vacuum left over in the petcock vacuum tube causing the petcock to stay open. Maybe the clutch was still stuck open and when you pushed it forward it turned the engine once releasing the vacuum to the petcock...? OR maybe the float was stuck and when you pushed it forward the slight vibration caused it to release, cutting off the flow of fuel from the tank into the bowl. I think it is something like that. I think my float is wide open and will not close till I clean it all out and adjust it. I also think that my petcock is not changed from what it was before. I bet it is just very sensitive to any slight pressure. I am guessing simply the draw from the fuel moving through the line because the float has failed to shut the flow, is pulling the fuel through and that moving the scooter somehow is creating a release of some slight vacuum. I think I will clean the carb out and get it functioning again and change the main jet as I have one coming and not touch the petcock. I think later I will add a safety manual valve inline just so I can shut it off at night and have piece of mind.

Recently had a China scoot job that was flooding, after 2 tries I found the fuel filter was coming apart and the glue that bonded the element was working its way into the needle and seat and the chunks would hold it open.Replaced the filter with a nylon type from Autozone, removed the needle and seat to blow out the crap, reassemble and every one was happy!

My scoot had no fuel filter on it so I put a cheap plastic one on. Is this one you observed that fell apart an original china-filter? Seems pretty crappy to make a fuel filter that falls apart from exposure to fuel. Maybe mine is falling apart too. Heck I completly cleaned my carb only to have the float stick open in like 50 miles.
I received my new larger jets in the mail yesterday so I will be cleaning and upjetting on Saturday.

I removed the carb and when I opened the bottom I saw that the float, pin and the float needle were rattling around in the bowl. so I blame the mechanic for this one. I simply did not tighten the screw that holds the float spindle in place tight enough. I know I have been a little afraid to tighten these tiny brass screws very much. I think I am going to strip them. I know when I first removed this screw it was really on there tight. So anyway, I cleaned the carb real well yet again. and I put in a #70 jet. After taking out the original jet I was able to read, with reading glasses what I did not see before. The original jet is a #64. I should have listened to your advice 90GTVert, and gotten a broader range of jets. I simply got the 66 68 70. The 70 runs fine. I have not yet adjusted the carb but I did a quick test run as it was, and it ran great. I did not notice any higher top end but it got there a little quicker.
As far as the petcock is concerned it did not leak gas when I removed the fuel line from the carb. I did not test the petcock but I am sure it is on the edge.

If it's running harder with the new jet but still not going faster there is something else going on. That's not to say it wouldn't be a good idea to look farther into your tune to get the most out of it. I really wish you had at least a temporary tach.

I have the dummy tach on my electronic guage. no numbers. However my ear can hear it rev higher with this jet change. I am no sure how far up the variator my belt is traveling since I did a slight grind on the sleave. Really I did not remove much material. Less than the washer thickness.

I was thinking about a diagnostic tool that I could use rather than installing something on my scooter. I actually have a non numbered digital tach on my scooter already. If I had a sense of where that one was at number wise, it would be ok.

I have mine in my battery compartment so I can look at it when I want.
