I am doing a engine swap on a 85 Honda ATC70 70cc. I am installing a Lifan 125cc 1P52FMI. Also swapping handle bars with a wider and taller one. Doing away with the thumb throttle and going with a twist style. I took some videos of what I have done so far and I'll upload them tomorrow. The reason for the swap is the power increase, CDI instead of points for easier starting, and more fun all around. Also he was afraid to install a BBK on such an old engine so he ordered a brand new Lifan engine. Another thing that is nice is having a new engine is having a 4 speed vs the 3 that was on it. One thing is going to be the biggest pain in the butt is the kick starter hitting the fender. More on that tomorrow.

When I threw a Lifan 125cc on my Honda Passport C70, I never did get to find the new top speed. It used to top out at 54mph. But with the 125, I could wheelie like crazy and at half throttle cruise at 70mph with gearing and power to spare. Never went faster than that because the wheels would start wobbling real bad.

i had a 1987 atc70, loved that little thing. it was my sons first motorized vehicle. I also know a guy who did a swap like you are talking about and also extended the gas tank and the wheelbase over all. It is a really badass little "pitbike". i will see if i can get you a picture of it for inspiration! The actual owner died a few months ago riding his bike with his son, crazy accident that happend at low speed. But the dude had a killer honda collection!

Cylinder nuts at the front may hit the front fender if it's as close as it looks in the vid. Stroke on the 125 is I think 11mm longer, so nearly 1/2". My old cateye midbike rubbed the cylinder nuts on the tire when the front compressed after wheelies when I went from an 88cc to a 114cc (+8mm stroke).

They did hit. I dropped the front fender to get clearance. I show that in another video. I have more to upload. Ordered the pull start spacer and have to machine the flywheel ring to fit. Also have to work on the intake and the gas tank to get clearance. Ill have more videos up later today. I dont know why my camera is not taking better videos. I think its time to get a good HD camera for the shop.
