I was on my way to work this morning doing my normal route, driving my normal speeds. Nothing was out of the ordinary, besides the amazing weather.
I came up on the intersection of Longview and Opitz, where my neighborhood exits to a major road. The light turned yellow and I sped up a bit to catch it and not have to stop. I don't like stopping, because the temporary weights I was using were too heavy. My new sliders came today, but that will have to wait.
So I went into the right handed turn going maybe a little faster than I had done before. I can usually tell my limit though, because it will scrape before I go too far. I've scraped plenty of times on this turn before. I was in full lean when all the sudden the bike slips out like butter from the back. No wobbly, no nothing. Just one second I'm in full lean going 40 mph, the next I'm sliding towards a median on my right forearm and right leg (the way I always fall, for some reason. My right forearm is covered with scars from going down). It was seriously in slow motion. There were cars on the other side of the 2 foot wide median. I was watching and sliding with the scooter towards the curbed median getting ready to see it go over and slam a car and break my legs or back on the median. We both luckily just bounced off and kept sliding. The bike slid another 40 feet or so down the street spinning like a top.
I got up immediately and walked towards it cursing and picked up the CVT cover on the way. I hurried to get it out of the road as traffic was waiting for me to move. This was a very full intersection when this happened. I got it off the road and someone stopped. At first I was annoyed/embarrassed and told him I was fine - there was nothing to worry about. He pulls over and asks if I need anything regardless of what I just said. I realize that my phone is NOT in my pocket so I asked him if I could use his. He handed me his new iPhone. I joked about whether I should hold it one way or the other (there is some flaw in the design of the new iPhone's antenna which limits how you can hold the device). Sure enough, it cut off on my when I was calling my grandmother.
Anyways, so I called her and told her what happened, and she phoned my uncle who lived actually less than 5 minutes away from where I went down. While I waited for him I chatted with the fellow that stayed with me and let me use his phone. I told him I didn't want the police coming, so I wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. He asked why, I told him my scooter was a little illegal. Told him why it was illegal. He said don't worry about it, I got my lights on. I was confused by this statement, but didn't think much of it besides visual safety from other drivers. I then told the guy I was going to walk up the street and inspect the area I went down at. Sure enough, there was a slight dusting of sand and I could see a slide mark right across it.
As I was walking back I see cop lights on the back of the guys car! I was shocked, and said to the guy - "Hey man! You're a cop! You let me tell you all about how illegal my scooter was!" I felt pretty stupid. The guy says to me - "Don't worry about it. That's not what I deal with." I said - "Oh, your a detective?" He says - "No, I'm an agent." I'm like.. wtf? He can tell I'm confused - "I'm a federal agent. I work for the FBI". I'm so relieved, and surprised at the same time. He assured me he wouldn't say anything to the cops if they got there.
My uncle came, the FBI agent helped me load the bike into the truck, and he said bye. I said thanks and said bye to him. Got the bike home, bandaged my wounds, and rode my dads 150 to work. Now I'm home, after sulking all day at work.
So I'm pretty sure that light dusting of sand put me down, but it could also be I was in too far of a lean for my bike/tires - or my case snapped and I went down. I think the case broke after. PS - I was only using the center bolt on the CVT Cover. Funny, we were just talking about this weren't we? I'm not sure if the cover would have a difference. The carter side just broke at the threads and the case was free to slide on it's own down the road.

Pics of my road rashed arm will come later. I just redid the wrappings.
Atleast now I have an excuse to do a total rebuild and spend money on it. ;D The only sad part was how amazing the scooter was running for me. I was really enjoying it. Started right up every time, rode perfectly with almost zero performance drop when riding hard or for a long time. Just installed my new alarm.
Oh well. Forced to finally take apart my carters and do some real tuning. Fun stuff ahead:)
