just a couple of bucks at Walmart for the small aluminum water bottle. Yes the gas gauge is haphazard. I have been riding along thinking I have a half tank and then all of a sudden the low indicator goes on and the gauge is at the bottom.

I use one of those expensive camping bottles. Wanted it to be good and secure. And i fill it up to the top. But i wish i had thought to try your test first. I have had people ask me if i'm afraid of it blowing up in an accident and i'm thinking if i get hit hard enough to blow this can up i am not going to be anywhere near sitting on my seat... On the other hand it is comforting to have on long rides in these Ozark hills. My add to the list would be a paper map and a compass on your dash. Sounds silly but you never get a "no service" warning on a printed map Oh and my tools are in a ziplock bag. Boy do i feel silly.

The map and compass are a really good idea. I just scooter in town but when I am going on small linking side roads they inter connect in confussing ways. I do a print out from the computer before my trip. Obviuolsy on long distance trips it is equally important.
I looked at the camping gas containers first and noticed how similar they were to the water bottle...except for the price.
The zip lock bag is fine. Actually I would think a series of zip lock bags in zip lock bags would be good. I am going to put together a zip lock bag of odds and ends bolts etc. Also I am going to put my sockets in one.

Yesterday I half filled the aluminum water bottle with gas and put the lid on and left it laying sideways in the hot Carolina sun all day. The plastic lid has a seal on it that did not erode. No leaks. I feel confident in it, besides I am only half filling the bottle. I think it would be pretty easy to run out of gas. Empty cans of Seafoam also make good mini gas cans.

Nice. That triggers lots of possibilities... Anyone want to buy and expensive, slightly used, camping fuel pottle?

I just like the idea of the gas can being small. It does not take much gas to move a scooter 10 miles. What would that be? A cup of gas? Maybe ideal would be a liquor flask. Small and flat.
