It's gonna be really tough to truly know what happened at this point. Best you can do is hope they are honest. I've heard all kinds of stories of shops and sadly I have no idea how you know good from bad unless you can get reviews from other people that go there. Even then, it's hard to know how reliable the review is.
If I got an oil change and it died after, first thing I'd do is check the oil. Most likely that's not the issue, but it would be best to try and figure out what they may have done and at least look around before it goes back. If you don't know a lot about the scoot that's fine, but once it's in their hands again they can tell you anything they'd like.
I hope they straighten it out cheap and easy and hope it's all legit.
As far as shops knowing you don't know what you're doing if you bring it in for an oil change... sometimes people do like to document them. Docx said it's the place he bought the scoot too. My father was a mechanic, service manager, and ran a speed shop... he still takes cars to dealerships till the warranty is up for oil changes so they have records of it just in case. Even after the warranty is up sometimes the dealership specials they send out are as cheap as we can buy oil and a filter so they get to do it. The tricky part there is they inspect the car and find $1000 worth of stuff that doesn't need to be done sometimes. My great aunt paid out so much money to a dealer because she was in her 80s and 90s and they would convince her that anything out of spec was a serious issue that needed attention. Even knowing my father and I worked on cars when we told her the stuff they're saying is not necessary she just believed the dealer must know more about the car they sell.
