Perfect day for scooting so I knocked all of the pollen off of the blue Kymco ZX and barely got it started because it sat so long. I rode it to the shop and topped off the stank gas, aired up the tires and set out. All seemed was well as I played with the carb to get the launch where it should be. WOT was fine for several decent length sections of road. I got down the road quite a way and was WOT when all of the sudden it soft seized. I looked down at the temp gauge and saw 360, no big deal I have seen 350-355 on this kit at times. I figured I tweaked the carb a little too much. I let it set a couple minuets and almost could not get it started, sounded low on compression. It eventually fired up and I took off, I did not get 1/8 mile down the road and it seized again. I was lucky to be near a little pull off space no bigger than a car so I pushed the scoot down to it and started checking. I dont carry many tool cause help is never far but luckily I had a small pair of vice grips. I pulled the main jet access from the bowl and bounced the scoot on its rear tire a couple time to hopefully dislodge anything that may have been in there. after slapping it back together and firing it up, I did not have confidence to take it back on the busy section of road I was on. There is a bike path just off in the woods that parallels the busy road , so I decided to limp along on that until I got through the busy section of roadway. I encountered a dozen or so assorted bicyclists that did not seem to appreciate a 2T on their road. I finally made it up to a section that is 35mph stop and go traffic and got back on the road. It seemed to be ok but I noticed idle sorta wanted to hang a bit at times when I stopped. I babied it up the road stopping for gas and some food, at some point it seemed to be ok so I went back to riding it like I stole it. Not sure but I guess it was something partially clogging the main jet. I thought it was an air leak at first but air leaks rarely fix themselves. Overall I had a good time but my arse is no longer conditioned for riding so....

BFH tools are the preferred brand among scooter mechanics worldwide
I have two sets in my toolbox.

This morning I managed to get out on the Aprilla Habana Custom as I noticed the badge on the side inform me. Took it down a reasonably straight road and no wind but very cold. It managed 63 mph both ways on the speedo which is fine. Mirrors offer best visibility I've had on a scooter and seating position and handlebars are most comfortable I have found on a scooter. Handling feels good even better with a new front tyre when chance to fit. Back drum is good front disc needs a bit of work at the master cylinder end to make it better. Overall very happy. Now having coffee and warm.

I rode T2 about 55 miles round trip to a friends house. Definitely running lean WOT. I let off when I saw 1350 EGT. No problem riding though. Got a ride in my friends V8 turbo Ranger. He hasn’t taken it over about 50% throttle yet, with TPS data to verify. Even at that, it goes. Breaking tires loose from a roll and that sort of thing. That was good for the soul.

You can see the shape of the venturi passage clearly. That is one reason that simple diametrical measurements on carbs do not work to determine carb 'size'.

I was looking at that and think it's made so small to restrict them for the UK market which I think at the time 50cc was restricted to 30mph FrankenMech

That venturi 'restriction' is what makes the carb work. The difference in pressure between the venturi and the fuel bowl is what pushes fuel out of the bowl through the metering jets and into the airstream. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venturi_effect
Speed restrictions are usually placed elsewhere.

Unless it's a Piaggio.

I even seen people debating/arguing that one quite often. Maybe people that haven't studied physics and fluid dynamics... Take a look at those links I listed. The venturi effect has been used for many devices. I have used the concept in many lab and industrial instrumentation systems. Restrictor plates are used in/under carbs often, but those plates are not the venturi. Check out NASCAR restrictor plates

Well pulled crank out ready to take cases to machinest to be machined to take stroker crank will be doing a fair bit of hand work on cases as well I do love how rc-one case with the roller main braring set up just pulls apart in your hands helps the pull down

Today I changed wheels over from the Honda Bali Sj 125 with good tyres on ready to go on the Sj 50 and put new kenda tyres on the rims to on the 125 what a job removing one tyre which was dated 2005 hard as a rock. Still job all done just the mirrors left to do. Luckily I had the help of Sorrel nextdoor but she's moving out of her mum's to her boyfriend's
