Greetings from South Korea.
Our Fighter Squadron has started a little 49cc scooter club for getting around on our base here in Korean and it's really taken off in popularity (some of it has to do with how many vehicles your allowed, and a 49cc scoot doesn't count). We've gotten quite creative with paint schemes, and I've wanted to do some little things to make my Scoot go just a bit faster, well just a bit faster than everyone else's.
With that in mind I've removed the restrictor plate in the transmission, had the exhaust adjusted so now I've moved onto the CDI... which I can't find anywhere. Can any of you help me find a unrestricted CDI for a Daelim E-five? Since Daelim is out of business and my poor Korean doesn't help me find parts on the local economy, the internet is the best answer I can think of. Two websites have listed it but none seem to be in business anymore since they won't take my order or respond to any e-mails. Does anyone know where to find this part or something that will work in it's place?
MRP CDI # MP-01200
Thanks! Nate

Welcome Nate! MRP is out of business but most aftermarket cdi's aren't worth the effort for otherwise stock scoots. You'd be better off seeking gains through cvt tuning. Is your scooter a two or four stroke? Lighter rollers can give you a better top speed.

Thanks for the quick responses.
I tried ordering from DKcycle but it was never processed and no e-mails are answered so I'm guessing it's out of business.
I'll give the generic CDI a shot.
Any other plug and play type upgrades that will help? Rollers next, does an upgraded spark plug/ignition coil help any?

After some research I think the Daelim E-five is a knockoff engine of a Honda Dio AF18 if that helps.

That's a hell if a motor for upgrades! A performance pipe really wakes up two strokes, bbk even more so with a pipe. Carb tunning is needed after both. You could check your gear ratio by removing the cvt cover and turning the clutch. Mark the wheel and clutch, spin the clutch until the wheel rotates one full turn. The number of clutch revolutions to one wheel revolution is your ratio. If it's high 12:1 plus changing gears to get you closer to 10:1 will get you more top speed. Hope this helps. Do you fly Blackhawks?

You try a bigger jet in your carb with an aftermarket air filter also. I put a 85 jet & a UNI racing air filter and got a pretty good gain for only spending $25.

I used to fly Hawks for the Army but now I fly A-10s for the Air Force. I've just kept the user name's the same to keep track of different accounts.
I'll pull the cover off and check the ratio and see what it's at tomorrow. Changing the gears
If I change the jet I'll have to adjust the carb settings right?

I wouldn't bother with an open filter on a stock 2t. If there is a snorkel in the air box you could remove that and up the main jet. Open filter are loud and require a good jump up on the main which results in less mpg and no real gains. Ask around and you'll get the same response from tuners with loads of experience. Not until you have a setup that needs a 24mm plus carb will you see a need for that kind if airflow.

Do you mean cut off the snorkel? Is it that easy? My air box/snorkel pulls air from just above the transmission. I've read about putting holes in the plastic as well. Does that help?
Haven't checked the gear ratio yet.
I did pull off all the panels to paint it Squadron colors and the wife is going to paint a dragon body across it for me. She's already working on my helmet and perforated vinyl visor to make the head/face of the dragon. We'll see how it turns out and I'll post a picture.

The snorkel can be pulled out. Some drill holes and add univents. Either way you'll need to tune the carb and most likely upjet the main.
