Hey guys, new ot the scooter world, but not new to mechanical world. I bought a 2011 Tao Tao 49cc scooter. Previous owner said one day it would just not start. Well it doesnt even crank over. Turn key and all accessories come on, but will not crank. Yes kill switch is in right position. Started testing with a test light. Red to ignition switch has power. Black wire for accessories has power. Noting else has power. removed main swithc. No power to kill or start switch/button. checked main fuse, good. No power to any other main componant involved in starting scooter. Did some research on line and foudn some general wire diagrams, but nothing is helping. Color codes and componants seem to match up, but cant seem to trace the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Chris

Hi and welcome. Did you try to bypass the starter relay? Its a big round gizmo with 2 big wires going on it. Just use a screw driver on the 2 nuts to bypass it.

OK, 1st newbie mistake. Did not know you had to squeeze left brake handle to power up. Did that. Now main swithc has power to start button and a I see power to a few other things. No spark though. Also when I hit the start button the starter solenoid make a click noise but starter does not engage. If i jump the two main thick wires at the solenoid it does crank, but still no sprk. Found what looks to be a cdi box. Found two wires pulled from connector. the wires are yellow and black and blue and yellow. Does anyone have a pic to show which pins they go in?
Also any more palces to check please advise

Color codes on them China Davidson are seldom the same. But you're lucky, if its not yellow on yellow, then there only one other way to plug them.

You can squeeze either brake to start it. Where is the connector located? Is the connector coming off the CDI or from a group of wires running from the engine case just above the dipstick? Coil wires? This pic shows a black/yellow and a green to the coil. Looks green to me anyway but I have bad color vision.

Also keep in mind a lot of these scoots have a kill switch on the side kickstand...

Have you tried to jump the solenoid or checked for power at the trigger plug ?
