I have a 49cc 4 stroke pagsta mini chopper that I just attempted to replace the starter solenoid and battery on. I didn't take great pictures of the wiring before I removed all the parts, but I believe I reassembled it correctly with the pictures I did have. The universal 12v starter solenoid I purchased had a yellow wire w/red stripe on the one contact point and a pink wire on the other. Whereas my bike has yellow w/red stripe and a black wire. I connected the yellow to the yellow and the pink to the black. Then I connected everything else where it seemed to go, fairly simple install, not many wires that I could've hooked up incorrectly. But when I hooked up the battery (with the key not in the ignition) I first put the positive wire to the positive and then when I put the negative to the negative it sparked and sounded like something tried to turn over in the engine or the alternator or somewhere. I don't know. This is my first time working on my bike beyond the basics. My couple buddy's that have mechanical knowledge don't know either. Any ideas? Maybe a picture of how your bike is wired or a wiring diagram??? Can post pictures tonight/tomorrow. Thanks a bunch!

There's a wiring diagram of a typical Chinese scooter below, but the colors don't match so I'm not sure it's of much use other than seeing basically how things should work. First I'd prob disconnect the small wires and make sure it didn't crank over when it had batt power. Then I'd try switching the 2 small wires and see what happened.

I worked on a "Tank" brand 4 or 5 years ago that was the same as your chopper. It had the same starter relay as a Chinese scooter. basically you have a fat red wire from the battery to one pole on the relay and a fat red wire from the other pole on the relay to the pole on the starter. Then you should have a small plug connector with two wires that comes from the start button. The wires on the scooter side of the small plug connector should have 12VDC with the key on and the start button pressed. You say when you hooked up the battery the starter tried to turn, that leads me to believe you hooked up the red wire directly from the battery to the starter instead of the relay. Here's a picture of a Pagsta Mini Chopper for all those who are interested or may have some experience with this type of engine.
