Installing a 47mm BBK for someone
REALLY heavy handed rider and I KNOW he'll be redlining it from the get go.
What do you consider the "best" way limit the abuse the new BBK will take during especially the first 100 miles?

A mis-adjusted throttle cable will help just loosen it untill wot is really like 3/4. Other than that some good oil and hope for the best.

Some people say that running a motor hard is the best way to break it in. www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htmMy first scooter I bought brand new and rode it full bore from day one and that engine did about 12,500 before the crank bearings started to get sloppy. THE CYLINDER AND PISTON WERE STILL FINE.

I like to run them hard during break in so I'd consider just doing the first ride myself and varying throttle positions. Instruct the owner to vary throttle positions for the first rides, not to cruise at any one RPM or throttle position. Either change the oil yourself after the first ride/tuning or advise an oil change within the first 100 miles or so.

My main concern is that he rides it 35 miles each way every day to work. That first day will pretty much be wide open for a few minutes then stop for a traffic light...wide open for a few minutes then stop for a traffic light....repeat.....for 35 miles.
It may be a good idea for me to do the first 100 miles if possible.

If it's a customer I'm not sure how much most people would like the mechanic saying they need to ride 100 miles on their scooter. Plus the more you ride the more chance there is for something to happen. Could be unrelated like a flat tire or worse a mishap of some sort be it your fault or not. I'd write up a for racing use only and no or limited warranty kind of remark on the bill rather than ride it a long distance or worry too much over what the owner does. I wrote for off-road/racing use only on customer receipts anyway with a BBK so I couldn't get blamed should they end up with a legal issue due to a larger bore.

It really doesn't matter.
I always do a preseat on the rings, 20 miles riding. Then give it to them and have them return in 30 days for re-torque, readjust, change oil. Then all warranties are over.

Adjusting the throttle sounds good. Or heavy weights in the CVT.

No warranty on performance upgrades! Let him know before any work is started. Go easy for a few miles to verify all is well , then ride like ya stole it
