I have a 93 yamaha jog and the carb is leaking out of the over flow , I was driving the bike for a while and it worked fine and last night I got home and shutthe bike off and noticed it was leaking gas out of the overflow and when I tried turning it on with the kick or electric start it wasn't working , so I let it sit and today I checked up on it and it only drained 1 4th of my tank so I still had gas I tried turnin it on and it took a while and only worked with the electric start and I tried driving it to get gas going and it and it worked fine so I parked it in front of my house the bike was idling fine no leaks or anything and I walked in to get napkins to clean the bike off and when I walked out it was leaking again and died and completely leaked the tank out of the overflow if I put gas in I can get it to turn on but it repeats the process anyone know of any way to fix this , it's a 2 stroke oil injected and the carbs about a year old

First off Welcome. It sounds like a float issue. There's plenty of carb tips in the tech section. Your going to want to remove the carb, inspect it all and clean it. Check the tech section first. Admin has done a lot of really nice write ups and videos. I'm assuming the scooter is stock?

Take the carb off and take the float bowl off. Check the height and condition of the float, float needle, and seat. Make sure it all moves easily. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBCzVg4kUN0

I have the exact same scooter. 93 jog. I went threw 2 carbs myself. Same issue. Till I finally sprung for a dellorto. Little more pricey than the replacement carbs on Amazon or eBay. But it was well worth it. Besides what 2tdave mentioned Jacataldo you can also try installing a inline fuel shut off. I would imagine there pretty cheap. It would atleast stop you from draining the whole tank. Till you can fix the carb.

WELCOME!! A vacuum petcock should be the first line of defense against this happening- fuel shouldn't be able to drain from the tank unless a vacuum is applied to open the petcock. Then the 2nd line of defense should be the tiny needle/pin thingy in the carb- it has a little rubber tip on it (well, most do) and it's attached to the float so when the bowl fills with fuel it should push that little pin up and the rubber tip should seal the incoming fuel... Once you dig into it and start to understand how it works it'll make it easier to diagnose and cure the problem You can do it!!

Niz as usual got to the point I was going to make more clearly and succinctly than I was headed about the petcock. It has failed.Get that replaced.China repops available on ebay for about 5 bucks. That'll stop the tank draining. That can be dangerous in the interim clamp off the fuel line with a small vice grip when not riding. As to the carb.It is a spigot mt. and just shoves into rubber hoses,Compress the clamp on the outlet side and pull the rubber 90 to your airbox off.If it comes out of the air box no big it'll be outta your way. Then there is a screw type clamp on inlet side loosen it and pull carb out.It should be free in your hand then.As I said I have no experience on Jogs but my Vino has a dual throttle cable and I have to unscrew the carb top and pull out the slide.Carb should then be loose in your hand. Then just follow Brent's vid paying particular attention to the float, needle and needle seat as Niz said,Then take the needle and seat into a reputable Yamaha shop. I am guessing a Mikuni needle and seat will work, a good parts counter guy will know.Set float height and your back on the road. The viton tip on the needle that old is prolly worn out.Much cheaper than a new carb. And while an on/off petcock will work it's a pain in the ass to remember and you would need to block off vacuum line which at your level of experience is something for later.Post any obstacles we are here.

Haha Thanks Frank. The real Pro's are on here- I learned from them! I have a couple sets of locking hemostats that are invaluable for clamping off fuel lines while playing with the carb.

So I took the bike apart today and it was empty on gas so I filled it maybe 1 4th full and turned it on and it started And then stood on for about a min and at first it was reving very high then it went really low and died , it did that same process about 5 times and then stood on for about 10 minutes I shut it my self at that point and started to clean the bike and paint my plastics because I was going to do that anyways , I noticed the oil looked very black so I siphoned the oil out and it wasn't black but it was green a very lime green and when it was mostly all out it looked really black in the container I put it in , the new oil was a golden yellow , has anyone ever heard of it being green like that ? But I put some new oil in and started the bike again and it was revving normal i let it sit on for a while everything was going good with no adjustments to the carb or anything then it got to a point where the bike was on but it was leaking gas from the overflow again and I shut it and turned it on and it was still leaking and it started revving real low again and died and it leaked the rest of the tank out again and I haven't tried anything since that point , can someone tell me exactly what I should do at this point ? If you can tell me please give me great details because I've never worked on a carb before maybe videos if possible links , and has anyone heard anything about the oil being green is that ok ? I got almost all of it out there was maybe 1 10th of a tank left of the green oil and I mixed it with the fresh 2 stroke oil .
The bikes a great speedy bike but many problems I just want the bike working properly , anyone have any advice for basic tune ups and to improve the life of this bike , thanks everyone

It's not uncommon for 2T oils to be blue, green, red...
There's a link to a vid about the float in my previous post.
