Okay so im working on a zuma for a friend. Problem is its not getting gas to carb. but the petcock appears to work fine bc when i suck on the vacuum hose gas flows out of gas hose and scooter will run with gas in bowl until it runs out. Problem is when vacuum hose is attached to carb its like its not sucking hard enough for gas to come out. When vacuum is attached and gas is not and i kick it over no gas comes out. Any idea as to what the problem is? Air leak or something around the carb so not enough vacuum? thanks guys

That's weird. Mine is down with fuel issues at the moment also will idle but runs can dry at wide open haven't figured it out yet. Cracked vacuum hose?

Have you tried putting your finger over the fuel inlet on the carb when you kick it over to test vacuum with fuel line disconnected? I always put a ziptie or clamp on the vac line where it meets the carb as I have seen them not be tight enough to get a good seal before. The whole intake area is very prone to leaks... The last few carbs I played with were very sensitive to float height and wouldn't let fuel flow/stop fuel flow unless carb float was set just exactly right. PITA!

While trying to get my Baccio running I found that the vacuum tube on my carb was blocked/plugged. I ran a wire brush bristle through it and viola, it worked.

The vacuum hose isnt clogged bc when i suck on it gas comes out. So the only thing i can think of is its not generating enough vacuum on its own. Why is the question. And by covering the fuel inlet and kicking it over did u mean taking gas hose off and covering that hole with finger then kick it over and see if gas comes? Bc i didnt see it necessary bc i know on my vino even if i dont cover that hole and kick it over gas will still come. Im not sure though. . Really confused on this one. Im thinking air leak causing not enough vacuum to be generated but i cant find it!

You misunderstood my post. I said the carb vacuum port was clogged or stopped up somehow. Mine worked if I sucked on the hose from the tank but when I connected the line to the carb it would not. I disconnected the gas line from the carb and sucked on the vacuum hose and gas would flow but when I connected the vacuum line to the carb gas would not flow. Give it another try. I was using the starter to turn the motor not the kick start.

Okay i see ya sorry misunderstood that one. Carb has been cleaned (thought thats what problem was at the beginning) and i sprayed some extra carb cleaner through that hole for an extra measure but that didnt do trick. Is the only thing it could be if carb is good and fuel pump works an air leak somewhere? And if so how do i go about finding it soapy water?

Im thinking air leak causing not enough vacuum to be generated but i cant find it! The best way would be with a leak down tester... 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/506/make-2t-leak-tester-waysIt may/may not be neccessary to cover the hole while u kick it, but why not give it shot? Should take like 30 seconds to try??? The fuel inlet is a straight shot right into the carb bowl with only the float needle pin blocking it, so if the float is down, vaccuum could easily escape... Maybe the spring/diaphram in this petcock is a little stiffer that the Vino one? A leak down tester would be the absolute 100% way to know if u have any leaks but if u don't have one or want to try a few other things while u wait for parts to make one u could gut the petcock with a drill bit, cap off the vac port on it, and install a manual shutoff valve. Petcock is usually about $10 to replace.

Ya was thinking about going manual and keeping it that way. Is there a thread on exactly how to gut it? I was thinking id have to take it off and either find a adapter to fit in itd place or drill a new hole

IDK if there's a thread showing exactly how to 'gut' a vac petcock, but I have done it a few times. I pretty much just get an appropriate sized drill bit and drill into the holes of the petcock and keep spraying the shavings out with carb cleaner/brake cleaner. You'll be able to tell when you've removed the vac guts and fuel would just freely flow out of it now... Depending on what petcock u have, some of them come apart by taking out screws and can be 'Gutted' a little differently... Of course, you could also find one of these that fits...

The Zuma petcock bolts to the tank. I think it is a Yamaha grizzly petcock that bolts on. Gives you the manual plus a reserve lol. Search Zuma forums and you'll find the thread and part number
