i have a Tomos TSR getting dropped off to me tomorrow for me to work on. it starts and dies right out, i have narrowed it down to the carb. i looked everywhere and cannot find a carb that will fit it. does anyone know where i can get the carb to fit? i am going to try and take it apart and clean it.

It could be caused by a number of things, but one problem that definitely produces these symptoms is 'over oiling'. What might cause the over oiling is another matter...... but you can fire up the motor, and it runs for about 2 - 4 seconds and it then dies. Check the plug....... is it really shiny with oil? If it is..... this could be the answer. If it is...... clean the carb, and fuel bowl of all oil...... check the airbox manifold for oil residue, and air box. Drain the tank to a container (for later use), and refill with say 2 litres of fresh juice at your chosen premix say 25ml/L, and disconnect the oil line. Put a new plug in, and start her up. If it fails....... then it is not over oiling..... it must be something else.

no oil on the plug. the engine was soft seized, i got it to break free, it needs a new top end but i cannot find one. it is a TSR 50 and the A series engines and parts don't fit. anyone know where i can find a new top end? i tried ebay and scrappydog, the owner of the scooter tried several places as well and no one has parts. it is a 2009 tomos TSR 50 2 stroke. it has spark and fuel but no start.

Tomos did a mod to make this engine their own, the exhaust pipe has a different fitting to the cylinder so if you get an aftermarket minerelli cylinder you have to get an aftermarket exhaust. i cannot find a cylinder anywhere that is identical to the one that is on it but i can fine aftermarket cylinders that will bolt on if the exhaust is done at the same time.

parts came in and the cylinder does not fit, the stud spacing is different. the owner is going to have the original cylinder cleaned up by a machine shop and just buy a new 41mm piston and rings. he is also going to track down a new base gasket. i thought 2 strokes were supposed to be easy.

That's terribly bad news..... I feel for your angst. Getting kit that doesn't fit involves all sorts of reposting/refunding shit that you just don't need. PS. Am I allowed to say that the kit looked pretty crap in: www.scrappydogscooters.com/Geely_D1E41QMB_2T_parts.htmlWindings on the stator, 10 o'clock on the drive sprocket, weak clutch, and a carb that offers no confidence. Clearly the parts are cheap...... but a carb never breaks...... it always only needs cleaning. If I was buying a new carb, I would go with an upgrade to one that can be tuned.... allowing access to all forum knowledge. Hopefully everything will go well with the refund, and the overbore.
