Ok, so there are many threads and questions about "my scooter won't start" - but as yet I've not found any of "My scooter won't shut off".
So, It's an Ice Bear 50cc (see signature) - and sometimes it will not shut off, key off, steering in lock, key in my hand, and the scooter is still running - IF I put the key in and unlock the steering (but not go to on position), it not only stays running, but I could literally ride it with the key in my pocket.
Now, I can just air starve it to 'force shut down' - but seriously, would rather know why it can continue running with the key out.
ALSO, of importance to the question - kill switch (that normally works fine) doesn't work when this occurs.
Any thoughts, where to start looking??

Some scooters works with a "normally open" electical circuit to run, you close the circuit, you stop the scooter. Look like you got a bad connection somewhere. Did you check the plug that goes to the ignition switch? By the way, i have the same problem with my mother-in-law.

Just to clarify, the scooter will or will not start without the key?

Just to clarify further:
Does the scooter have an alarm with remote start?

I have a remote start for my scooter and while I can't turn the scooter itself off without the remote button, I can still operate the killswitch to shutoff the engine.

That's why I tell people to never start the scooter with the remote start and pocket the remote cause you can accidentally press the kill button in your pocket and that could be an injurious or even deadly mistake in certain riding scenarios. The other thing is if you remote start the scooter with the key on I'm pretty sure that you can still turn the key to off and remove it and the engine won't shut off.

Check the two wire plug on the cdi it may be loose check that both wires are firmly in place. The cdi must be grounded to kill the engine. You did well to starve the engine of air to shut it off pulling the plug may kill the cdi.

Thanks for all of the replies - no alarm on this scooter - wiring to 'keyed' switch and 'kill' switch look good. Starving the air is easy as it's just under the seat area.
I will have to check the CDI wires (that's under my floor board on this model).
Also, I would not try to remove the spark on this scooter (two reasons - I know it can damage the electronics and can't get to it without taking apart the covers).

I never heard about harming the electronics by pulling the plug wire off the plug before. I have had plug caps pop off the plug while riding before and nothing bad ever happened.
What about pulling one of the wires off the coil?

Couldn't reach it if I wanted - it's behind covers.

most likely connection problem at the plug for the CDI or could be a defective CDI where the wire that kills it is not properly soldered to the board inside of it.

Fixed - I got my fluids changed, and the mechanic found that the CDI ground wire was getting pulled out when I turned left due to other wires pulling on it (she released the pressure off of the wires by removing a factory zip tie, pulling the wires down a bit and then re zip tie).... so yay!

Oh - Final note about this - it was from turning to the right all of the way (which surprisingly I don't do very often - 'cause left handed... and the lock is to the left...)
