Figured I'd write up a post since I got my Big Valve Head today and got it installed. I went with the Scooters To Go Big Valve Head on Ebay. It comes with a rocker arm assembly and 2 different thickness of head gaskets, except for some reason, mine came with 1 head gasket and 1 cylinder base gasket. I've messaged them to find out why I didn't receive 2 different head gaskets.
So far, here's what I'm running with:
100cc (83cc) Big Bore Kit
Big Valve Head with 20mm & 23mm valves
Both Valves at .003
Blue Performance Racing CDI
18mm KeiHin carb
#90 Jet
1.5 turns out on the idle/fuel screw
Needle clip set to leanest position
Stock Airbox with both snorkels removed
TDC set properly now! (for anyone that saw my 1 tooth off thread)
The carb settings are what I had before the big valve head. I figured I would have to upjet, change needle clip position or something, but so far it seems to run pretty darn good with these settings. I'll get an extended run in sometime later this week and check the plug out. I may throw on my pod filter now and see how that does. I can feel now that I need to go with slightly lighter rollers/sliders. I'm running 8gram rollers that came with my BBK. I may change those out now to 7gram or slightly less.
Here's the funny thing. After I got everything installed, it was a little hard to start and when I finally got it started a minute or two later and it would die and at that point it wouldn't even start at all. I thought maybe flooding at first, but then it was almost like I was getting no spark. Starter would turn it over fine but absolutely no starting. After a bit, I could try it again and it would start, but then completely die after a minute or two again. I checked fuel, connections, etc but it just wasn't getting spark for some reason. In a last attempt, I thought I'll just throw on my blue racing CDI I bought that I didn't like and low and behold, it fired right up. Runs smooth as silk, and sounds great. Weird.. Very weird. Especially since before the BVH, the scooter was sooooo hard to start and it didn't seem to run as good as the stock CDI. I'm guessing it's coincidence that my stock CDI has started to take a crap at the same time that I installed the BVH, or I've finally found the magic combination to use with that blue performance racing CDI.
I took it for a few mile cruise to make sure everything was working properly. So far so good. Came back to the house to bolt on the airbox that I accidentally forgot to bolt on (it was only attached by the carb connection hose.. Yikes), and took it for another short run but a little longer distance. It runs really smooth. I can hear a bit of a growl now coming from the exhaust. Makes me want to throw on a glass pack or something more open.
I'll be ordering more from Scooters To Go. Their shipping was way faster to me than anyone I've ever ordered from. Placed the order Friday evening, came home today (Monday) and it was on my porch waiting on me! The head was packaged pretty well. Other than the 1 missing head gasket, which I'm sure they'll fix, I'm pretty darn satisfied.
