Yeah It's not a bad idea to move up a heat range. too hot a plug and well you seize too cold a plug and the spark plug gets fouled. BBK should produce more heat so a CR8HS seems like a good bet to make. I switched mine from a 7 to an 8 when I did my BBK This is me asking because I'm ignorant about this, but what do you mean by 'too hot a plug and well you seize'? Got me curious now... I'm running a BBK with Big valve head and A9 cam and am using the CR7HIX (NGK#7544 I think). Would there be a benefit from running with the CR8HS?

Usually colder plugs are used in racing/competition applications.

Your fine with the 7hsa/7hix. Racers step down heat ranges to help keep temps etc. Down.& from leaning out @ hi temps.

Basically think of the way your spark plug sticks into the cylinder. a "cooler" plug reaches out further outside of the cylinder so it transfers more heat from the cylinder to the outside. Right outside the head is where the air is run by to cool the engine.
more heat drawn outside the cylinder = lower temperature engine.
the extreme for this would be where the spark plug is too cold and you get fouling easily.

you won't see more power, just less heat.
I mean I guess theoretically the engine temperature has some impact on its performance but you won't see any difference at all.
it's just to keep temps down so you don't seize with your BBK.
