Check your petcock. Mine did this and was leaking fuel into vacuum and weaker flow than optimal to carb. Idle up, idle down, idle steady, repeat... same damn thing.

I was amazed the first time I tuned my carb. I read somewhere (maybe here?) that to do this correctly, you turn your idle down as low as you can go and still have the engine run. Then tune the carb to the highest rpm you can get...reset the idle and you are good to go.
Well, I don't have a tach but I kept turning the idle down, lower and lower and it was still running. It was going like....thump...thump...thump....I am not going to guess but it was very, very low rpm.
My point is, it idled well where it was suppose to and also very, very low and in between as well.
Now, after tuning, it still starts with a single kick cold. Sometimes need a second kick when hot.

lololol omg it was the vacuum leak after all......man what a good read. Learned a lot i sure did, gotta go check my valves again!
