If you drill a hole where the variator nut is you can start the engine with a drill and a socket. Saves the battery and the starter.

This is a good topic to let everyone know that you can avoid this ever happening by moving the kick lever on the shaft counter clockwise so it's pointing up at around 1:30 to 2:00 position. This angle means that each kick will have more travel. What breaks the case is when the kick lever gets to the bottom (6:00) and you are standing on it acts like the lever it is and you get a lateral movement. I could explain it better but I would need paper and a marker and an easel. Just know that moving the lever up like this helps you avoid breakage and makes starting the scooter easier. One mistake people make is they kick the kicker a bunch of times in a row really fast wham wham wham wham! That can break things. You have to work the kicker slowly until you feel resistance which means the engine is on a a compression stroke. Then you let the kick lever come back up to the top and then push firmly. Your foot should never come off the lever.

You have to work the kicker slowly until you feel resistance which means the engine is on a a compression stroke. Then you let the kick lever come back up to the top and then push firmly. Your foot should never come off the lever. That is exactly correct and the first thing I did on my scoot when I got it. My friend that had the scoot said he never used the kicker as it didn't work. Well, i tried it and...yes...it was positioned at about 4:00 and you only got maybe 1/2 cycle by kicking it. I pulled it off and re positioned it to about 1:00 so, when I kick it, it spins that motor enough that it usually starts with a single kick. I actually use my right leg standing beside the scoot as you really need to push backward at first, and not down when it is in this position. This was a very good post and folks should be aware that you can move the kicker easily so it works very well without stress on the case, even though those cases are made from crap metal, as we all know.
