If there was no gasket there should have been at least some RTV silicone applied there or some ultra gray and when you install the intake with the sealant let it dry for 12-24 hours before you run the engine. On my rebuild I put sealant between the reed block and the engine and between the reed block and the intake boot. I would have to say that a zip tie is not gonna cut it. You'll need to get a good quality hose clamp. Take the intake to the auto parts store and have see if you can find a narrow one that fits between the two ridges on the intake boot. The fan screws are lost? That sux cause they are just the right length so they hold the fan onto the flyweel but fall short of hitting the stator.

I doubt that is solid enough as you can't generate the required clamping force with a zip tie. Just get the right sized hose clamp...I see a lot of folks using them instead of the stock 2-piece clamps that come with our scoots. To me, decent hose clamp would seal all around and be even better. Other fellows that know more can tell you if this is right or not.

I don't think a zip tie is enough to clamp that around your carb. Now you'll have an air leak. This is a 2 stroke Vino, correct? You want all the air entering the motor metered by only the carburetor. An air leak is un-metered air. No bueno EDIT: I did the same thing Bill lol

This is great information I had no idea I thought the zip tie was doing alright. Ill see if I can get a gasket for the intake if not some silicon or similar sealer. Lost the screws for the fan is fine. I have one but most of the screws basically suck and strip out if you try to take them off so I am replacing them all eventually with better quality. As I go through the project I am getting replacement hardware as needed.

if its a lean jet issue a 105 wont solve it, its a pilot jet issue. unless you have a low fuel bowl level to cause it to race away or a air leak. having no filter only makes it worse. try rich'n up the idle air screw and teke her for a spin. all carb adjustments should only be done to a warm engine He's right about the low fuel level causing it to go lean and the motor to race. Learned this as a kid when we'd run our carbs dry at the end of the day so that we could put the bikes away for the week.

So what about this...I have a 90 jet and 87.5 jet. Would it be worth a try to put the snorkel back in and trying a smaller jet so I'm dealing with less air and fuel?

Well I run it with gas in the tank obviously...as for the float in the bowl how do you check that? The vino carb doesnt have an adjustable float. The float needle is connected with a plastic bracket so there isnt a metal connector like in some other ones ive seen on youtube that you can tweak. But I did get some hose clamps and replaced the gaskets on the intake for prevent air leaks. Im still waiting on the cooling fan to come in so I can start it up again.

If the float is stuck, usually a few hits with the big end of a screw driver will set it free.

so if the scooter starts taking off while its on the kickstand and I tap the bowl and it stops then the bowl is getting stuck?

Not quite, if the float is stuck, fuel cant enter the bowl. No fuel in the bowl, you start running lean, idle goes up and when the bowl goes empty it eventually dies.
