I picked up a 9mm at Sears for like $5.

Anyone know if there's a guide for installing the 49/17 gears? It says I need to press them but I can't find any sort of guide or anything on how it's done.

Anyone know if there's a guide for installing the 49/17 gears? It says I need to press them but I can't find any sort of guide or anything on how it's done. Just take it to a machine shop if you don't have a press-- it'll probably cost like $15. Most people don't have a press anyway. The old little gear in your scoot already is probably a 15T or so. They'll press that gear out and press the new 17T into the gear you already have-- the little gear is pressed into a gear already on your scoot. The other gear, 49T, just gets swapped in-- take the old one out, put the new(49) in- no pressing with the bigger gear. It's really easy! Just make a note to put the little nylon spacer back where it's supposed to go. Put back together and put some gear oil back in.

Got it done for free courtesy of one of my college's machine shops. About to seal it back up and put some oil in it. Everything seems pretty good so far, just looking over which bolt went where really quick using 90GTVert's gear box bearing video.

I use a cardboard and do a crude drawing of the part, then i just stick the bolts on to the cardboard according to where it goes.

Okay I have 3 long bolts, not 2 as Vert did. I am very confused right now...

If one of the long ones gets tight but the head is still sticking out then it's in the wrong hole.

Not the Rockers, the studs that connect into the head from the outside. The valve seal information was useful. I have a completely new cylinder head with valves already built so I'm not gonna install them though.

I managed to get them out with vice grips yay. Gonna get something to get the rust off them so I can install them and be on my way.

If you take the two nuts that hold the rubber intake on and you screw them onto the studs back to back and tighten them together real tight you can then use them to turn the studs out and into the head.
I use two 10mm wrenches to cinch the nuts together tight but you can use a 10mm wrench and a 10mm socket too.

Already, so I finished it and of course it won't start nicely and I have no idea why as I followed the guide exactly for the rebuild to the letter. When I put the piston into the jut the assembly lube was forced out the front so I'm pretty sure there's compression but I don't know exactly. I made sure the timing was correct and that the valves were set properly (.003" intake .004" exhaust) and that all of the gaskets were in place. There doesn't appear to be any leaks any where.
I opened up the carb and checked out the float bowl and it would seal the carb when I blew air into the fuel line and pushed up on the float bowl. Scooter would not start even when opening up the throttle. It ignited and almost started for one very brief moment during the first try with the electric ignition while I was giving it a little bit of throttle but now it won't do anything regardless of throttle or using the kick starter instead of the electric starter.
I'm at a loss and pretty much just want to give up after how much work I put into this damn thing only for it not to work. On top of the cylinder rebuild I also completely replaced the clutch and variator with performance parts and changed the gears to the 49/17 as well clean a lot of gunk that was in the cover so I've pretty much completely built the engine from scratch at this point.
Here's a video that hopefully will let you guys know what the hell is going on at this point:

First thing i do when i got a problem like that is to look for all the dumb stupid things i could've forgotten.
You need 3 things for an engine to run:
1-Fuel. 2-Spark. 3-Compression.
Looks like you got fuel since you blew some into your carb's bowl and compression from the kickstart lever going stiff/hard at a certain point.
You got spark? Unplug you coil wire from the plug, put another sparkplug in it and put the tip on the somewhere it will be grounded. Use the electric start and see if you are getting a spark.
