So I picked up this 2 stroke yesterday for 50 dollars. The guy that delivered it never told me it was a 2 stroke. But I bought it anyway. Its in rough shape. I never worked on a 2 stroke before but always wanted one since I owned a moped. Can anyone give me any direction and advice on where to start on this thing? I seen pics of new ones and they look really nice. I wanna keep it but don't know if I'm getting over my head on it. So it is for sale if you live around the sc Anderson area.

Good for you! Get it running and have a blast!
Will it kick over with the kick start? Does it feel like there is compression? If it has been sitting long without running, drain the gas put in some new and give the carb a look. A working E-start will really help get it started easier, but if you use the kicker, be firm and quick but try not to hit full travel with the kicker because they will break if you beat it to death.
Check out the scoot FAQ's for more help on getting it started.

so I cleaned the carb, put a battery on and the starter worked! Very surprised. So I decided to take the head off and check out the piston and whatnots. I guess this happens a lot, at least around here. People just decide to put whatever spark that will fit into these mopeds. All kinds of messed up inside. Anyone have a spare piston and head?? I'm broke. Or have a suggestion on what brand kit I need to buy? Also where can I get the plastics for this thing?

Could you post a picture of what it looks like in there? You have lots of options for kits for it.

If you're too broke to purchase a piston and head, I'd forget the plastics for now. Easier to ride without plastics than a working engine, so focus on getting it running well. You may be able to find someone selling plastics in the Classifieds section of the forum or post a wanted ad there. You may be able to find some of the plastics at ScrappyDogScooters.
When you're looking for a piston, don't forget to specify if you need one for a 10 or 12mm wrist pin. If it's all messed up as you said, a complete top end (including cylinder) may be a better choice.

That's what I was thinking about a whole new top end. But after researching a little, How do I know what kits are compatible and what aren't? I'm on the malossi site but they don't have kits for cpi? what brand scooter uses the same engine? I don't think its a oliver. I believe its a 2001 popcorn. Why couldent it of been a top of the line scoot I got for 50 bucks? I will post some pics later today.

Sites like scootertuning.ca and scooter attack list CPI models. I think most should be that engine, other than the GTR that looks more like a motorcycle than a scooter. You should have a Minarelli / Jog / 1E40QMB engine type. Parts are quite common. Looking for parts for an 02-11 Yamaha Zuma brings up a bunch of stuff, but those will be 10mm wrist pins. If your CPI is 2004 or later, I'm guessing it has a 12mm pin but check to be certain.
Don't be so down on the scoot. I'd be pretty happy with a good set of matched engine cases for $50 even if the rest were junk.

I work on 4t chinese scoots so cant be to difficult, right! Famous last words. Just kidding. If you can get the hang of the 4Ts, you should be able to work on the 2Ts. There are certainly differences, but you'll get it and we'll help where we can. A couple of things to remember with 2Ts are that any leaks around seals or cases are not just oil leaks like a 4T, but air leaks that can lean the mixture out and cause problems. Also keep in mind that 2Ts are less forgiving than 4Ts if the tune is not correct. They run hot, expand, seize, or even melt parts when they're on the lean side.

OUCH!!Looks like a top end and head are needed,Ive got a runnable jug & head, but no piston..Yours for the shipping.PM me if ya want it..You'll need to wash out the crankcase, stand the engine on end(cyl down) and flush it with kerosene or paint thinner in a pump up sprayer, turn the crank slowly while flushing..Warning!Dont let the epa read this!!
