I'm just posting this to maybe help the next fool with one of these scooters and save a headache or two. The blue, see them everyday online, "racing" cdi will plug right up to your harness, the little light will flash, but it will not provide the necessary spark to keep the engine running. It's possible a quarter of the strength of the branded tgb cdi. Unless the one on mine magically went bad the day I bought the scooter, I think it had been a problem from prior. This explains why there are sites that sell cdi that plug matches the connector but specifically states it doesn't work for the r50x.

r50x has a factory DC CDI I thought? If so there won't be a exciter coil in the stator to power the AC "racing" CDI.

I didn't look that far into it. I might want to check that. The stock cdi that works is smaller than average DC cdi that I've seen. The blue one was a little larger. I can take some pics later I suppose. And try to run the thing without the battery connected.

I might be wrong about the r50x being DC, it was a while back I was looking at TGB etc for a cheap DC option for my Suzuki. If it is AC then the pinout might be different to the blue box special.

The connector for it is different than the usual AC cdi, but it's still the Blue box with the graph on it giving false hopes...
