I've been scouring craigslist looking for a 150cc GY6 engine. I ended up finding this guy who will sell me the whole scooter for $100. huntington.craigslist.org/mcy/5277814983.htmlIt has a GY6 150cc engine in it with 12" wheels so I'm guessing long case. Anyone know? Also, would it be worth picking up just for the engine, wheels, forks, etc? I don't plan on doing anything with this other than pulling the engine and a few other parts. He said he took it to a mechanic and they said it needed a new piston, but this guy doesn't know anything about engines. I'm guessing at the worst crank bearing failure (if that at all and really don't mind splitting the engine to put a new crank in). Would it be worth it? I could have a modded GY6 150cc with BBK for the same price as a new stock GY6 150cc and have some extra parts I might be able to use also... Whaddaya think??

The large sort of entry-level/small touring type with 12" wheels should be a long case. One of my customers had one of those. I never really rode it beyond a quick test, but the seat on that seemed more comfy than the average scoot to me. Doesn't sound like you have an interest in the whole thing, but if you were in the market for something a bit more cushy, that could be the ticket.
Looks like a decent deal to me since you don't mind rebuilding. It appears to be in pretty good shape so you may be able to sell off some parts to negate the purchase price.

Silar I can read contrary to popular opinion. But if that thing has a title IMO it would make a great flip.Unless the camera is very flattering it looks nice.Could very well be the 'piston' problem is the typical tight valves.Hard to miss at a bill IMO.I had one of those big touring 150's and liked it just took up too much valuable shop space.

He said he has a title but it's in Lexington KY. He said he can have the title in 2 weeks or so. I just have a feeling it's one of those.. "I'll get you the title" and never be able to contact him again. I'm wanting to do a custom scooter build using a 150cc engine and figured this would be a good foundation for parts.. I offered $50 and he came back with $100 and said that it's still in pieces right now since he had it checked out by a mechanic. Anything larger than a 49cc scooter in KY requires registration, insurance, etc, but having a scooter without a title would be like pulling teeth to try and get it registered if even at all. That's why I'm just looking at it for parts only.. I could probably recoup some of my cost by selling a few of the other unneeded parts like Brent said..

Gotcha "just sayin" and it is C/L so if they are talking they are lying.Did a lot of racing around Paducah at fairs and we always got pitted next to the mules.I can't think about Ky. without remembering those good ole boys with their show mules.Between their chaws and accents I understood Vietnamese better.lol Mules do not like race bikes. For a hundred be hard to lose.

Exactly. We may not have running water, but by golly we've got our chaw and mules! (actually I don't chew and I've lived in KY for 42 years and have never seen a mule in person. I didn't even know we were known for that..) Now.. We definitely have our accent though!

Kentucky. (I live here) The home of fast women and beautiful horses.
Wait! It may be the other way around, ha ha. I am easily confused.
There are tons of guys riding 150's here with no registration. The cops have not caught on...yet. But they will because the law is clear...over 49cc must be registered and insured.
I would make sure I had a title before I did this deal. Other than that, it sounds good.

Kentucky is beautiful. I'm not really wanting it for a scooter... just the engine and a few other parts to eventually use in a (dare I even say)..... Ruckus..
