I just wanted to replace the engine and cvt cause i dont want to throw all this money into repair on a used scooter... Rather just get new and take care of it myself... Its buring oil pretty bad. Clicking during idle.. Load vibration from cvt case we taking off and at wot.. Yes these are all fixable but dang man theres no scooter mechanics in my area plus i dont have to tools needed to fix myself.. I was gonna buy a total rebuild kit for my scooter but the place up the road wont do it they just sell new ones thats all.. Im on my own in this world.. Manager at a fastfood place and im 24 its my only transportation.. Kinda lost man but everything i need fixed i cant do or have tools to do it.. I keep oils and spark plug changed often and check air filter and fuel filter often thats all i can do. It runs good but its hurting for maintenance.. Any links or ideas for complete engines?? Any help in the winston salem nc area??

You need a GY6 50 engine. Why do you need a replacement in the first place?

You posted about an engine in another thread, yeah? A long case 50? Anyway, I called my buddy the other day trying to get a price on one, but he's closed. I'm pretty sure that I can get you one of those motors for around 200-250. So if you can wait until after the holidays I'll let you know. Of course whatever the price is you'll have to add around 60 for shipping. Still less than 400 on ebay.

That seems to be the correct one, assuming you need a longcase (12"tires). You'll need to dismount and re-mount the rear tire, exhaust, carb, brake cable, fuel lines, etc. etc. It's not difficult, but does require some tools... Hate to see you buy a whole new engine because yours needs maintenance. This new one will need maintenance soon... what then?? Hope it works out for you!

Where are you located? Maybe someone here is close enough that they can help with a rebuild. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you could get by easily with a rebuild kit or cheap BBK kit. You can find the BBK kits which will have everything upper end you need to replace for around $50 to $60. If you're burning oil then it's mostly either the piston rings or valve seals which will be completely replaced with a BBK (big bore kit). You can also get a rebuild kit with the cylinder, head, piston, rings, valves, etc.. and the installation will be pretty much the same.. No matter what you do, it's going to take some tools. I've got a lot of 'tools by necessity' as I call them. More or less I always end up buying tools only because I need them, and not because I want them. To put a BBK in, you're going to need a 3/8 metric socket set, feeler gauges, and a small metric wrench set. It also helps if you have a 3/8 ft/lb Torque wrench, but there are many that install these without them. If you have a Harbor Freight, you can get these tools for pretty cheap... These are obviously not the best, but they will work and be what you need.. Socket SetWrenchesFeeler GaugeTorque WrenchAnything you do, including changing the engine out, will require time, patience, tuning, and tools.

I agree if you are going to maintain your own scoot you need some basic hand tools.A BBK and tools would be cheaper in the long run plus then you'll have the tools to maintain. The library on here has everything you need to know and a lot of knowledgeable guys to answer questions as they come up.Maybe run an ad on local c/l for a repairman but check him out well.Honestly for 400 bucks you can prolly find a usable China scoot and have a spare.

The easiest route would be to dump the scooter and buy a new one when the gas tank is empty.
These little engine are pretty easy to work on and dont really require any expensive specialize tools. just go whoring in the tech section and dont be affraid to ask question. It might cost you the same to build a reliable engine then to simply buy a new one, but nothing beats the feeling of riding something you made.

I just went to harbor freight and bought my son everything he needs for basic scooter maintenance toolwise. Socket set, wrench set, screwdriver, couple of different types of pliers, test light, a magnetic bowl, Allen key set, little work light and a bag for it all. Set me back about $70. Still need to grab a sparkplug wrench and some feeler gauges.

I'm just guessing but probably because the scooter market is a small one there. I live in Kentucky, and we have tons of motorcycles, but you rarely see a scooter go by if at all. We have motorcycle shops, but they are unwilling to do anything engine wise on a scooter.
Maybe put a craigslist add out for help. You may find some others that are in your area that could help.
