After a long hiatus from scoot flipping, I'm back in the game with Flip #25! A $100 2t Vento Triton clone (the title just says "UTMR" as the make). I've been itching to flip another scoot and was on the lookout for a long time but things seemed really dry here for a while. I've also been finding it difficult to jump on the good deals quick enough since work has been keeping me quite busy lately. I lucked out on this one as it was "email reply only" on CL and that actually worked out in my favor...
Here's the Craigslist ad:
Like I said, work has been keeping me busy so I can't really jump on the real good deals like I was- the good deals are usually gone within a few hours of being posted on CL, but this one was email reply only so it worked out great. I emailed the seller and let him know I couldn't really get there until Thursday. He replied and said he'd had many emails about it but he'd hold it for me because of what I wrote in the email!
Here's what I wrote:
"Hello,
My name is jeramy. I live in New Port Richey. I'm interested
in buying this
scooter! I work on scooters and plenty of extra parts to get
this scoot
running. I work until around 5pm every day except Thurs. I
get home early on
Thurs. Please reply so we can set up a time for me to
purchase! Thanks.
Jeramy"
His Response"
"I have had so many emails...I will save it for you, if you
are
serious..Thursday is good...I am in st pete/gulfport...727
644 6..... Charlie"
He said I was the kind of buyer he was looking for- someone who knows the scoot doesn't run but is able to repair it and get it running...
I have sold some non-running parts scoots on CL before and I can tell you the idiocy of most people responding to CL ads is astounding! So many people asking "Does it run?" when the ad clearly stated it did not. People asking "does it have a clear title?" When the ad clearly stated these were non-running, non-titled fifty dollar parts scoots I was selling. One gentleman even asked "Well, how am I going to drive it to work??". I wanted to respond "If you're looking for reliable transportation to work, you're gonna have to spend more than fifty bucks!!" but I just bit my tongue...
The point is, people are amazingly stupid and a real PITA to deal with sometimes. I made it clear I knew what he was selling, and that it was exactly what I was looking to buy- and it all worked out!!
Here's some pics of the scoot freshly unloaded (and even unloaded!):
Not a bad lil' scoot for a hundred bux!
Charlie (the seller) said just wanted to sell the scoot before one of his kids got hurt on it, and that he added "the gas additive stuff" when he put it away- I hope he means Sta-bil! He also stated that he hooked the battery to a charger and was able to get the scoot to fire and run for a second with starting fluid, but he didn't want to run it long because the oil line came unhooked the last time someone rode it. Smart man! Hopefully the cylinder is in ok shape. If not, I've got a pile of 49cc cylinders here to choose from, and I think I may even have a 70cc one left....
Time to dig in!
