i did a search, but did't find (don't yell at me, please). heh Being that I'm new to 2-Stroke engines (yeah, I've never owned, or even rode those cool 2-stroke motocross bikes... ...), I would like to get more info on the best oils to use? What would you recommend, please? Should I switch to full-synthetic? and if i do, do i need to manually remove the old (don't know what's in it currently) oil prior to using the new?? How often (i guess milage) do I need to add the 2-stroke oil?? Thanks! p.s. oh, It's Yamaha Vino 50cc

have you looked at the sticker under the seat? my derbi states synthetic.
i have been using evolution cause its excellent. i heard it is just castrol synthetic but i have not had the castrol yet to compare it.
---- in the end you want castor oil with synthetic additives. or full synth...

i have 4strokes, but, in the past i would always not scrimp on the mix oil. the best is pennies more,, also, just my opinion i always would go just a little light on the recommended mix,, they will run a lot better, i do the same on my 40year old chain saw,, steve

Ok, I think I'm gonna start using synthetic. Any particular brands better than the rest? Obvioulsy, I wouldn't want to get a cheapo from walmart, so... The Vino has a seperate fill hole, so it's an auto mix. I'm sure I don't have to pre-mix to any ratios prior to adding gas... I'm pretty sure... I think. lol And no, doesn't have any sticker indicating regular oil, or synthetic oil. Thanks!

Synthetic is a good idea. One thing to look for is if the oil is intended for pre-mix or injection. Some are fine for both, but you don't want to put an pre-mix only oil in your tank. BTW, no, you don't have to worry about ratios. All you need to do is keep oil in the reservoir.
AMSOil, Motul, Maxima, and Bel-Ray are all pretty popular oils that you can usually find locally.

Ok, just went oot and grabbed the Castrol POWER RS TTS 2T full-synthetic motor oil at lunch. It says, "suitable for pre-mix or injector use."
And also just to clarify, I don't have to remove the existing 2T oil in the scooter before topping it off with this Castrol, correct??

I run Amsoil Dominator or interceptor synthetic (red cap or yellow cap) it's like $12 for a qt, but lasts months!!!... even when my bike is running lol

No need to remove the existing oil, I'd just run it until it's low (near empty but not quite) and then top off with the new oil and just continue using it from there. Some guys will add just a little to the fuel tank (even though it's auto mixing) just for safe message because if your oil injector let's go, it can get expensive if you don't notice and your out riding. Ahhh, thanks mr. amishsasquatch. Good idea on running it til most is used, and then put the new stuff in. Got it!
Oh, interesting on the oil in with the gas tank trick... Add like a tablespoon for each gallon?
Thanks!

Not sure the ratio, and can't remember if it was suggested to me here or on the Kymco forum, when I did my S9 build.

I run the Castrol Full Synthetic that you picked up and I like it alot seems to work just fine. As for removing oil I've been told thats only if one is ester based and one is not like Royal Purple but you should be fine. As for adding oil to gas while still having injector I think they added about an ounce per gallon but those were mainly after a BBK had been installed and they were breaking it in or not completely trusting the oil pump.

Its all about for what purpose you're using it.
In general a fully synthetic oil with the ISO L EGD or JASO FD specs is the best for a mild sport- street-midarce machine. You won't have much carbon build up, no clogged up exhaust ports, sticking powervalves and the lubricity is just very good.
When it's a true track bike or 'beyond hobby' MX bike you want a mineral oil like Castor (Castrol A747 or Castrol R40). They give a lot of fouling and carbon deposits but the lubricity is excellent. So only useful if you regularly take the engine apart and are able to clean everything from carbon deposits and soot.
When it's a stocker with oilpump find an oil formulated for injector systems. They are thinner. When you're not using the pump but premix yourself try to go with regular fully synth oil.
Myself I use Castrol Power RS fully syntetic, works good enough for me and tons of other ppl with mildy to highly tuned engines.
