I did a search, but didn't find anything... sorry. I'm just perplexed at this... I've never seena key like this! Do Vespa keys have different grooves for either sides of the key?? Obviously, all two sided keys have "mirrored" cut groves... like a typical motorcycle keys. Or is this a "mess up"?? The seller only had one duplicate key when i purchased... Hmmm

I have a GTS and it has a transponder chip in it for the immobiliser. What did you want to know I don't really understand.

ok I understand now, do you need to turn the key over for it to work sometimes? You have the ignition and the seat with cylinders?

One side of my key is grooved (the "peaks and valleys") totally differently than the other side. Basically, if you look at a car key, the sides of the cut grooves will be same on BOTH sides, but my Vespa key isn't that way.... So, where you could insert your car key one way, and make it work; you could remove the key, rotate 180 degrees, and still work. My Vespa key will only work inserting in the ingnition (and the seat lock) with a particular grooves at either one side up. I hope that made sense. Heh

I see it. The two sides are not cut identical to the other, which is odd. Usually they are cut exactly the same on each side.
I did that to a key though. I bought a scoot that had been stolen and when I bought the new ignition and new gas cap I bought them separately because Yamaha wanted too much for the set so I bought from Taiwan.
Anyway, I had two sets of keys (one gas cap and one ignition) and I took them to a locksmith and had them cut one side of the key for the ignition and one for the gas cap. So maybe this is something similar?

Yes, the ignition and the seat lock is orignial. And this key works for both with no problem. I just have to make sure that it's only one way for both ignition and trunk when inserting (that's what she said... heh).
i'm puzzled (which is kinda easy to do...).

There's a good chance that the seat lock or ignition had broken at some point and the original owner only replaced the one broken part and had not replaced it as a matching set. So one side is cut for the ignition and one for the seat.

^^^ Ah, good theory, but the key only works with the same side "up" for both ignition, and trunck. no need to flip-flop

The tumblers could be oriented differently? Just a thought. If only one side is working you could take it and have a new key made that has both sides cut to the proper cut, assuming its a hassle enough to warrant it
