Just got a taotao bws from superior power sports, and it's only getting a top speed of 25mph. Replaced the carb, and cdi. Still no help getting over 25. Also checked the transmission to see if there was a limited on the variator. Still no help. Is it limited somewhere else?

Maybe it has weights in the variator that are too heavy to take advantage of what power it does have.

I would put money on that being the issue.

I bet it has like 8.5 g weights in it.

Check the variator weights, try replacing them with something like 5g sliders/rollers to start with.

What weights did you have and what did you replace them with? Does it sound like RPM plateaus, like perhaps a rev limiter? Does it feel weak all around or feel strong up to 25MPH but is always stuck right there? Have you tried changing jets in either carb or checked the current jet size or at least looked at the spark plug to see if it's clean like it's lean or black/wet like it's very rich?

Went with the purple Mr. Pulley weights. Nothing. Took it to the local shop. They said it was the petcock being always open. Had them put in a big bore kit. Runs fine. Now I need an aftermarket seat for two or foot pegs. My girlfriend keeps sliding down forcing me off the seat lol. Btw the scooter hits about 40-45mph with no problem now.

They also put a 22mm(?) carb on. May need a new cdi, the one on there now is an old blue "racing" cdi.

Thanks. Any hint on foot pegs or a different seat? Not sure how to add pics to a post. I'm on an iPhone

Some people remove the cover on the seat and then add or remove foam to customize the seat before reinstalling the cover. You may be able to create something more functional for you that way. I've always took my scoots apart and welded on pegs or peg holders, but that would require some welding/fabrication. There are some bolt on and clamp on pegs that you may be able to make work, if the frame is close enough to body panels for them to stick out and be in the right positions. Google "bolt on footpegs" to get some ideas. Image Posting Info

Ok found a way to fudge some foot pegs. What's the best loach to use. Scooters get stolen all the time around here.

No locks are a guarantee. At least have more security than the next scoot and you'll be a little safer. Cable locks are popular so you can lock to a stationary object. There are disc brake locks that keep the front wheel from moving. Use the steering lock that most scoots have by turning the handlebars to the left and the key in the ignition to the left. Be gentle with the key. You should feel it lock in and the bars no longer turn.
If someone wants the scoot, they can get it with all of those locks. After all, it weighs roughly 200lb so it can be lifted. Those should all at least be deterrents though.
