Every time I put gas in my scooter it splashes out everywhere. Why in the hell would they put a bar across the tank like that... It's a VIP future champion BTW if you're wondering

Well yea but I would have to remove the gas tank and empty it and fill with water so the gas don't catch from a spark. I will eventually but it's just annoying. Why the hell would they do that lol

It is to keep the nozzle from being put all the way in.

I agree they could have designed it better, but without it people would put the nozzle in too far and fill their tanks halfway. I just try to keep the nozzle to one side.

I have removed a few of those per customer's wishes. I used a regular pair of snips to cut through one side real slow and then once cut I just bent it inward and under far as I could with a screwdriver.

I just try to keep the nozzle to one side. when I put it to one side that's when it splashes everywhere. I have to hold the nozzle about an inch away and fill directly in the middle in order for it not to splash. But I will be taking care of that next time I get on an empty tank

Yeah, I guess removing it would make things easier. I'm just hoping I can replace the tank anyway. It's fine, but the fact that it has a piece of wood and a carb float in there just annoys me.. (Yeah, I tried to replace the gas level float instead of buying a new one. Stupid idea. Stupid execution.)

My '89 Honda had that. Never really had an issue with it. But at 2.9 Liters it helped stopped me from overflowing it every fill up.

If my aged memory serves these things cropped up about the time the fuel industry changed the size of pump nozzles making it impossible to put leaded gas(larger nozzle) into a vehicle built for unleaded (smaller nozzle) but as to what purpose they were supposed to serve is beyond me other than prevent you from using the auto hold on some nozzles preventing spillage?

I always thought it was so someone couldn't get a garden hose in and syphon your gas....

I always thought it was so someone couldn't get a garden hose in and syphon your gas.... I mean if someone was gonna go thru all that trouble to break the lock on the seat to get to the gas cap and syphon .75 gallons of gas I guess they deserve that little bit

Similar to what Fox said: I grounded my tin snips, then reached in with my tin snips. Twisted the strap in the middle and cut it. Then bent the pieces away underneath. I used my finger to do that since the metal is really thin. It took less than 30 seconds and the problem is gone. I use the ends of the bent strap as a visual fill indicator. Don't even try to use the auto pump shutoff feature to fill a small tank. I cut my strap after I fueled it once at a station. Brass carb floats from small engines work as fuel gauge floats. I believe leaded fuel would work OK in our scoots. Just watch out for that lantern guy trying to fill your scoot with camping fuel... Now for the second stupidest design, the CVT...
