I put a brand new carb on my moms scooter today and I rode it for about 5 minutes and it acted fine. As soon as she got on it after I got home she said she got about 5 miles down the road and it started spitting and sputtering at high speed (the reason I changed the carb in the first place) . I'm stumped because I cleaned her carb last week (a genuine keihin BTW) and it still ran like crap. So today I changed the carb. It's just puzzling me because usually this is an easy problem for me to fix but I am puzzled on this one. What could be the problem? Maybe her airbox is getting more or less air than it should?

check for small hairline cracks in the manifold or maybe its an issue with the Pair system. I would try those things first..also may be the petcok

Sputtering makes me think too rich. Check for restrictions in the airbox. Look at the plug to see if it's dark like it's rich or wet. Perhaps it was already rich and warm humid weather (if your area is anything like mine) has put it over the edge and it could use a step down on MJ size.
Ignition problems could cause a sputter as well. Wouldn't hurt to check for a strong spark (able to jump the gap on an HEI or other wide gap tester or a plug with the strap cut off) and check connections for the ignition components.

They have to start their scooter by jumping the solenoid because the ignition switch is broken

Had the same problem. Replaced the entire fuel system except for the gas tank. Still not fixed. It was the CDI that had intermittent problems.

Lol no they bought it from me. I never had a problem with it. They just haven't taken care of it and let it go to waste so now it runs like crap
