I thought this would be interesting as a companion thread to humanshield's 50mm+ BBK thread. If we get a large enough sample size of votes in both threads, perhaps we can get a better idea of the actual risks involved in moving up to the largest bores. Below is the same text that was posted in the 50mm thread, only modified to apply to 47mm bores. I'm just wondering what the current consensus is on 47mm bore BBK's FROM THOSE WHO HAVE ACTUALLY USED THEM PLEASE. Do you use a 47mm BBK? If so, how did it work out for you? Did yours fail early? Do you have any suspicion of the reason for the failure? How hard do you run your scooter? Do you take it easy or gun it every chance you get? Note : I added the ability to let someone vote twice, for the people that have installed more than 1 70cc BBK. Please only vote once if you've only installed one kit. Here's a link to the 50mm thread in case you have experience there or just want to check it out : 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/16593/50mm-bbk-thread-installed

I installed a 47mm kit 2yrs ago and put about 8000 mi on it. It gave out about 3 weeks ago not disappointed as I weigh 270 lbs and its on a reverse trike(about 400lbs itself). I also ran wot all the time so I feel it stood up really well for a small engine. farmer54

I've got about 1400 miles on my 47mm bbk...no issues. Been changing oil every 200-300 miles.

Did you notice a decent increase in power with your 47mm upgrade? I have been considering this move but, I hate to tear into my engine while all is good. I have about 4,500 miles on the stock 49cc bore. Bill

I was hesitant to vote since it hasn't failed yet...and I'm not expecting it to anytime soon.
Yes, huge improvement in power...not so much on the top speed, but it doesn't lose as much speed going up hills...and there are hills everywhere around me.

i installed a 47mm bbk, no real top end gain, just much faster to get there, it is a very noticeable gain in midrange power, exactly what you would need in a hilly area... i put in the bbk with 400km on it, i felt it was dangerous slowing down to 20 mph on hills with the way people drive locally. ive put on roughly 90 miles since the bbk and i weigh 160. the scoot will do around 35 up hills for me

ahh, i almost edited my original message to say that I couldn't vote. it would do damage to the poll for me to vote, as its running and the poll is to see how many miles people get out of their bbks before they fail, and why.

Installed the 47mm/72cc BBK 8/8/2016, stock head and carb, 472 miles so far, only issues have been valve and carb adjustments, significant improvements in performance across the board, top speed to date 46.3 (GPS), and quite frankly that's exactly 6.3 miles an hour faster than I need to go on a 10" wheeled scooter...

Sounds scary. When I rode my scoot regularly I once hit 52 down a beast of a hill. It barely wanted to move from side to side and was screaming at around 11.5k rpms. And mine is just a stock 2012 taotao VIP "49.6 cc". I never did that again...

downhill run on curves, cracked the throttle coming off the last one. On flat ground I'm hitting 40-41 wide open with a new carburetor. Still fast enough for the current frame, needs new shocks to say the least...

I had over 3k miles on mine when I wrecked last month. It still runs just gotta fix some other things. I just installed one on my new scoot and only have about 150 miles since install and it's running fine

For anyone new to this game....a general rule of thumb....
All other things being equal....a 47mm BBK scoot "should" outlast a 50mm BBK scoot
and
All other things being equal...a 50mm BBK scooter "should" walk a 47mm BBK scoot due to the added displacement.
However, there are so many variables, one could outlast the other or out perform the other.
