It is good to see that others are using the kicker with no problems. I will say, for the record, that these mechanisms are not over built and will not take much abuse. But, with a little care and some caution (and good tuning) I would never be afraid of the kicker. Hey, it's not like it is going to kick back and break our leg like some old Harleys were fond of doing.
I, for one, am happy to have both options when it comes to starting. Redundancy is good.

I think a kick starter if maintained should last the life time of the scooter. They break if the scooter is dropped or laid down on the kick lever/cvt housing and the initial damage takes place.(cracked covers) Other is lack of maintenance, keeping all moving parts lubricated and in working order. Loose or stripped kick lever bolt, stripped splines, bent kick levers hitting cvt case is just asking for problems. I kick mine over a couple times a month to make sure everything is in working order. Like PirateLabs mentions above, its good/nice having both.
