I just went to the gas station and tried to fill the tank. Sheesh! I was sitting there and slowly pushing the trigger on the pump and then lessening the pressure so as not to overflow. I spilled over a few times. The valve used to fill the tank has a bar going across it, and it really prevents easy filling.
How do i fill the tank without spilling?
And, once were at it, why does it has that bar going across the tank-side opening in the first place?

Cut it off with a pair of side cutters/dikes. It's there to irritate you. Is it working?

Though all the bar does is make it hard to put gas in the tank I believe it is there to tell you when the tank is full and to stop pumping so you don't spill gas. The truth of it is that with it there it takes a lot of practice to fill without spilling. Like Spaz said just cut it out be sure not to use anything that will create a spark.

Just aim for the gap on the side of the bar and fill slowly.

It's pretty easy filling from a can of premix. Just saying...

Just aim for the gap on the side of the bar and fill slowly. Slowly doesn;t seem to work so well. Unless it just takes a lot of practice.

have you tried a different gas station. maybe the pumps at that one just don't shut off quickly enough. I usually just fill my scooter from a jerry can myself

When i had my jonway 4T i would just use both hands. Use one hand to pull the pump trigger and at the same time use your thumb to hold back the trigger at the bottom where the little auto pump clip is at, as you pull the trigger use the thumb to push it back down to find that happy middle and aim to the side. Like Spazz said "It's there to irritate you." Don't know why he asked if it was working... It work's on Everyone!

It takes practice, I don't spill gas anymore at the pump.

It takes practice, I don't spill gas anymore at the pump. Me neither. I don't have any bar in my tank either, I have never heard of that. I can stick the nozzle all the way down into the tank and fill for a few seconds, then I pull it up near the top and...5 seconds later, it cuts off. I look down into the tank and see that I still have a few inches so, I juice it a little and then I am full. I then rotate the pump nozzle as I remove it to prevent drips and...I am on my way. The first time was a bit weird but after that...all is good. Bill

The bar usualy goes from side to side. Aim it to the front and have at it. Be mindful of how full your tank is.

It's all about the angle of the dangle.

I use the bar to know when the tank is full, when the gas rises above the bar...its full.

Yep, get a no spill gas can. Getting one for my daughter was an absolute necessity. She is scared to death of using a gas pump. The no spill container lets her fill on her own and she doesn't have to make a trip to the station.
