I am trying to open my cvt cover to check the inside unfortunately one of my hex bolt got stripped. Some good methods I found on the net are the following: 1. Cut a slot using dremmel tool on top of the hex bolt and open it with flat screw driver 2. Make a small hole on the center of hex bolt, then drill in it and extract it using bolt extractor tools. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK6eNjRqOR0&list=LLTMm92HaKS6ZxdvMl0T_obw&index=23. Glue it with 8 millimeter socket and remove it with ratchet The size of the hex bolt is 8 millimeter. Here is a picture. If you have any advice please feel free to share, I would need it. Thank You!

Hard to tell from the photo but can you get a small pair of vice grips on it at all? Seems you just need a quarter turn and it should come out easy after that. Sometimes I've found that a SAE socket will tap on so tightly that it will get these types of bolts out. try 3/8". You may have to tap it on tight.

Method 1 would be my first thing I'd try.

I might try a smaller vice grip and the socket don't work. I've tried it many times. I also tried this IRWIN BOLT-GRIP Extractor Expansion, but it only make it round. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QW6K8I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Vise grips as tight as I could get them would prob be my #1. Then cutting a slot or just drill it to remove the head then deal with the rest of the bolt after the cover was off (likely with vise grips). If I were going to attach something to the bolt, I'd weld a good bolt to it and then use the hex on the good bolt to take it off. Should be cheaper than ruining a socket, but a cheap socket and some epoxy isn't a bad idea either and I know many don't weld.

If the bolt is that difficult to remove, corrosion has probably fused it to the case and will possibly need to be drilled and tapped. Although you can get away without one or two of the bolts so getting the head off will get you back in business.

I would recommend reverse drill bits from auto parts store and get a set of easy outs. Reverse spiral things. And of course buy alot of metric screws, I prefer stainless steel. Reverse drill bits will back the screw out as they bite.

I sent back my IRWIN BOLT-GRIP Extractor Expansion Set to Amazon for refund because at first all it did was to round my hex bolt. Yesterday I found out that I left out one part from the set and decided to give it another try today. This time I hammered it inside. Boom! It fit snug and I was able to pull it out easily.
I can't say none of the above method work but I tried drilling it and I ended up messing it even more because my hex bolt head is not twisted.
