New carb, cleaned the air filter, new fuel filter, A/F screw seems correct, new exhaust and intake gasket, inspected hoses for cracks. Getting frustrated here, I'll probably do a valve adjustment tomorrow. #88 jet.

1). Was it doing this before the new carb?
2). Have you changed anything electrical? Stator?
It is definitely not revving cleanly. Remove the pod air filter.....still does it? Check the intake manifold bolts and boot clamp. Too rich?

1. No 2. No The pod filter is clean. OK, I did put some premetex on the intake to make a better gasket. Could be. It idles great where the A/F screw is.

Sounds to me one of two things.....
Your new carburetor has a problem...or you connected a hose wrong.
CAREFULLY check the rubber diaphragm underneath the two screws on top of the carburetor. There may be a small, hard to see crack in the diaphragm.
You might be able to use the diaphragm from the old carburetor if so.
Or, you used too much permatex and it flowed into the intake tract (doubtful, but possible)

I was thinking about a ripped diaphragm also. It would only take a tiny slit to let air through.

Diaphragm looked good, I harvested the parts I needed off the new carb and put them on the old one and gave it a good cleaning. Valve lash was way off (of course) problem solved. Runs like a baby beast now.

Odd that it only did it after you changed the carb if it was valve lash. Always learning something new Glad you got it fixed

If u installed a new air filter then that's probably the problem. It sounds like too much air.
