Put on a new 80cc head today to compliment the 80cc BBK. Bike starts up and runs great, I still have the white smoke and oil billowing out the valve cover vent...like lots of oil and white smoke. I didn't notice much coming out of the muffler this time around, but its dark outside. The piston rings look good and no evidence of blowback. (See my other thread)
I was thinking the valves were bad since they were covered in carbon but apparently thats not the problem. Is the compression too high? I had the thicker head gasket on but had the same problem, plus it made the timing chain tight, like too tight for comfort. Anything else I should look at?

First you say compression so what is it? I thinking oil pump and how much is it putting out maybe to much? What type of oil are you running to break the cylinder in with? are you running your oil higher then you should? Also is this fresh oil ?

What type of oil are you running to break the cylinder in with? are you running your oil higher then you should? Also is this fresh oil ? Fresh oil, Valvoline 10w40 conventional. Oil level is where it should be when filled. Not sure if its compression or not. That's why I'm stumped. Basically the whole top end is new. Piston, gaskets, piston head, valve head, oil and a rebuilt carb. I had this problem with smoking before I did the BBK installing. I thought it was the rings, which I think it was. But the smoking had became gradually worse. Like I said everything is as it should be, that's why I'm stumped, am I overlooking something? I was also thinking it may have been a vacuum leak so I removed all the PAIR crap, the engine runs a lot smoother and no more backfiring. Something still isn't right.

Do you have a vent hole in that catch can? Looks like you followed usmcdoc's post in the crankcase venting thread, so you probably do, but I just wanted to check.

Did you place the rings in correct order? Gaps offset?

Did you place the rings in correct order? Gaps offset? That's what I was thinking, everything points to the rings. I'll tear it down again tomorrow. I may have them on wrong.

What he is saying is clocking the rings means if opening is at 12 oclock 1st one second open should be opposeted from first one and so forth.

Dialed the rings with the 12 o'clock/6o'clock method, still smokes like a locomotive out the valve cover vent. I'm going to order a set of new rings, after that I don't know....maybe look for a new bike or put everything back to stock 50cc and save it for my son.

Make sure you check the end gaps on the new rings. I've heard some Chinese kits have junk rings and people have tried to replace them with Taiwan made (HOCA, NCY, NARAKU...) for better results.
