So after a somewhat disastrous attempt at buying a used Sunny 150, and with more room in the budget than originally anticipated, I decided to say the hell with a used 150, after some quick research, I decided to go with the Tao Tao from FamilyGoKarts.com www.familygokarts.com/shop/150cc-scooters-905/taotao-cy150d-150cc-superscooter/ata-cy150d-burgundyI'm hoping it gets here before more snow so I have time to put it together and give it a test run or two before storing it for the winter. Now I just have to figure out how to fit a 4th scooter in the studio...

Congrats on the new purchase. If you will be riding it hard (lots of WOT) consider an oil cooler. My GY6 ran hot (had to be WOT for roads around here) and the oil cooler made a nice difference in oil temps and cylinder head temps.

I'll add that to the list ") I was told to expect a top speed of around 53 and a decent cruise at 45 stock, I'm looking at what can be done to boost that without a bbk.

Sounds about right from what mine did. Some people have good luck with cam swaps. I went with an A9 by Hoca and it dropped (dynamic) compression so I never tried the cam alone. I ended up with a 155cc (58.5mm bore) high compression kit and notching the piston for valve clearance so I could go without a base gasket. Prob could have had similar results with ditching the base gasket on the stock cylinder and ensuring adequate clearances, but the kit was under $60 so I tried it. I didn't get stellar top speed results, but it did pick up acceleration and average cruising speed which were helpful for 50MPH roads. Speed may have picked up more with a different variator. I was using a DrPulley variator, which was great for acceleration, but not the best for top speed. I seemed to have better luck with the stock variator for top speed runs.
There's a build thread about my Roketa Cayman 150 that has all of the details of my experience if it's of any interest.

I changed my mind. People do that, frequently.

Buying a scooter online is starting to remind me of dealing with the government... time to step back and re-think the whole idea.

It's not a bad idea. My CHTs haven't been as bad on my 50 as my 150 was, but oil temps still got pretty high.
