I tried the hot/cold trick when trying to press the gear with a ball joint press and impact gun but it just wouldn't go all the way down. I tried it a few times just to be sure. I read another post that it took about 15 tons of pressure with a press. I actually plan on buying one from harbor freight as I plan on trying a few different gears ratio setups, and to press bearings in easier.
Did you try any motorcycle repair or auto repair shops?

So a fellow cyclist who used to work at the same bike shop as I do now just stopped in. He's a total Volkswagen nut, and has his own shop. It dawned on me that he could help, so I asked. "No problem man, I got a 20 ton press. Just lemme know after a Saturday ride and we'll do it."
I'M SO EXCITED! I'm ordering the gears with this next paycheck, the end of this week.
Now to get the Airsal piston at the same time... let's see how my budget treats me this check.

Excellent!!!!
Great news, someone had to have a press. They are just too handy if a person does a lot of automotive work. 20T will push those wimpy gears clear through each other. Make sure they are supported properly or it could warp the gears.

Even better news, this eBay store I've been watching has the gears on sale for $35.95! www.ebay.com/itm/171862185966I hope they don't sell out by Thursday!

I'm just coming up on 1000km and my top speed is still 55ph on a straight flat run. I think it has enough power to get it up to ~58mph...I can just feel it. I'd like to find a nice few miles long stretch of road with no red lights because I think it can hit it. I'm ordering some lower weighted sliders to do more cvt tuning and will probably up jet a size or two just to see what happens.

My max speed so far is 54 on flats, just hit it today but I was drafting a little. My normal flat ground, no wind tucked top speed is 52mph. These gears will hopefully allow me to hit 60mph, which is the final goal with this build. If you haven't played around with really tuning your CVT you may have a lot more potential than you think. I have an array of 4-9g sliders and a few rollers and it sure is fun to play around with different RPM ranges for different results. I'm running a 5 and 7 gram mix of sliders, seems to be the best but I wanna try to get a tad bit lower weight. OH! Have you tried shortening the drive boss? haha PM me if you wanna chat about some ideas... I could hijack this thread too quick. Or did I already?

I think the gears I got were bad some how, (warped maybe), and rubbing up on something inside which is why it has that tight spot. It has worn down some but still there. I think thats the main issue. I'll probably play around with them some more but I think I'm going to end up buying a new set to rule it out. I still also have the 52/14 gear set I want to try out as well. Hope you're install goes smoothly.

To have different setups for different activities. There's another one that's a supposed racing setup. I forgot the exact ratio but I think it's something like 42/18. I figure the gears are easy enough to swap out for a weekend of wheelie popping fun or a long cruise to Miami down US HWY 1  . BTW: I've hit 55mph without the gear swap but not as consistently and effortlessly as I do with the gear swap done. My usual average top speed is 53mph. My belt also used to hit the bendix before but it doesnt appear to anymore after the swap. My max top speed ever hit is 58mph going down a sloped road on a windy day when I first got the big bore installed, without the gears.

What rpms are you guys turning at those max speeds? With gear changes, posting the rpm at those speeds would say a lot more than just the speed.
I have 12" wheels, 20mm carb, 50mm BBK, tires at 40psi, cam and a bit of intake tweaking. Max speed so far on flat ground, no wind, tucked was 47mph.
BUT....I do have it jetted slightly rich on top end for longevity sake. If I leaned out the jetting a bit it would probably do 50 I suppose.
Last check IIRC I was at about 9000rpm at 45mph.

Very true! I have 10" wheels and 20mm carb, Hoca intake with 24mm port to match 24mm port on the head. 1500k clutch & torque springs, 5g sliders. I logged a Gps run while the gears were still new but the numbers are right about the same, give or take a couple hundred rpm's : Launch speed was 4750 rpm's Max RPM was 9300 Max speed on that run was 53mph@~8740rpms Note: Max speed was not attained at max rpms. I have had higher RPM readings. I think the max was about 9600 rpms but can't speak for what the max speed was. I'll take a ride at lunch and get some more recent and accurate info to share.

Stock gearing My tach is weird, idle at 1600 give or take, which I read is just above what the manual calls for. I've noticed cruising speeds to be 3200-3900rpms. When I set it to having somewhat correct cruise speeds, I idle around 2600 and I think that is way too high. It'll stall around 700rpm which is normal for a small engine 4t.

$40 at the local motorcycle shop to have them pressed... Damn! I told them I'll try somewhere else for cheaper. Tried 3 different auto garages and got turned down at all of them. Ugh. Tomorrow is my day off, I'm gonna hit up EVERY place I can.

Tomorrow is my day off, I'm gonna hit up EVERY place I can. Wow that's not good to hear. I would recommend showing up with two sockets: 1 large socket to have the counter shaft sit on and a smaller socket to push it through that way they don't need to think about how to press it and just press it. That's what I did. I also would't say it's for a scooter or go into too much detail about it. I Hope it works out.
