Well the wife doesn't think I should quit just because of this, the real question is whether I can enjoy it still.

After life altering mishaps the 'fear factor' can be overwhelming at first, coloring your experiences. Like the old saying about getting back up on the horse you can get back out there and the memory fades eventually.
Just a warning, another near miss or close call can bring it all flooding back leading to the shakes and severe weakness. When it happens, and it will, stop the scoot. Walk it off if you can or sit down and breathe deep. It will pass, then you can get back on that horse.

Well the wife doesn't think I should quit just because of this, the real question is whether I can enjoy it still. I had several close calls years ago with my GSX600R, the last one I laid the bike down. After I fixed the bike up I didnt ride as much, maybe a couple times a year. I just lost interest knowing that some cagers out there could care less if they caused accidents with motorcycles. At least with scooters your slower and more of a nuance to them on the road and tend to treat you more like cyclist. There are a still a few a-holes tho. In the end you have to do what feels right for yourself.

Sad thing is, we determined what it was I landed on that caused so much damage. I was wearing my Columbia parka shell over my jacket that day, on the left side, right where my hip impacted were two plastic locks for the drawstrings, landed right on them... had it not been for that, the scooter would have probably been the sole victim.
On the other hand, we head west in the morning, called the shop, parts are ordered, should be done next week just in time for snow...

Damn, would having armor done any good with those locks there? Can you move the locks?

I just won't wear that shell again, but the armor in the pants I bought would have fallen under the locks so yeah, probably would have made a world of difference.

Went to Ames with the trailer to pick up the scooter, paid the bill, loaded it up, and then noticed a piece on the front fair broken and missing a screw, started taking a closer look, a vent cover they replaced was missing all it screws and pulled right off, couple ther panels missing screws etc.
When I dropped it off, I stated if it's broke or cracked, replace it. It was noted on the work order, and the jerk service writer tried to say I didn't explain myself well enough, I didn't understand etc...
After an extended session with the manager and a follow up with the owner, I have been assured it will be taken care of in about a week.

I'll tell you exactly what they were thinking... " Well, it's just a little piece of shit and he'll wreck it again anyway"

Talks with the owner are occasionally required...

Well, long story short, the owners decided not to be ethical, so I went back, loaded it on the trailer, and then had a conversation with the manager about what was going to happen next. Long story short, they dropped the labor charges, I paid for the parts, they told me they were no longer working on my scooter, which is a good thing since I want it done right. Two hours to pull the front cover and reinstall it correctly and scrounge up around a dozen screws to replace missing ones. For a Kymco dealer, their mechanics are idiots.
