Recently got a 2014 icebear 50cc scooter, guy I bought it from told me it hadnt ran in a year. I dumped the fuel and hosed the original carb so i just bought a brand new one. I installed the new carb and fired it up. It idles fine but the second you blip the throttle it dies. Even attempting to roll onto the throttle slowly it'll die. Carb I bought said "with upgraded jets" because it came with a slip on type filter. Any ideas as to how to get this thing actually rideable?

Chances are it might be running lean. Just buying a carb with "upgraded jets" does not mean anything. You need to know what size the jets are. Did you also try adjusting the air/fuel screw ?

I have tried every setting on the mixture screw from 1/2 turn out from being seated to 4 turns out a quarter turn at a time. Makes no difference

- Replace the intake, these things dry out and crack leading to really lean operation.
- Check your petcock.
- If you one on the tank hook up an external gas tank to the scooter. A mower tank will work. I have one of those IV bottles external tanks for testing but I used a mower tank before I got it.
- If you have an external petcock, bypass it and test.
- Check your valves. If they're set too tight it will run but never develop power.
Which Ice Bear scooter? If it's the Ruckus style they have a fuel pump.

Run your idle jet just to the seat then back it out 1 1/2 turn restrict the air cleaner with tape or whatever. If that improves things you are definitely lean upjet after spraying manifold and hoses with WD if it picks up idle you have found and air leak.No luck try an external fuel tank gravity fed if that works you got a bad petcock or fuel pump.

Can you put on the stock air filter and see what we have? if not you need to open up the fuel you need bigger jet's in the carb. Good Air/fuel mix is key. I would take a good look at the jet's in the new one if you plan on using a open air filter. You could however get a 2T scooter and show us how fast it is (broken arm/ mom sayin-NO-MO) you know.J/k (roc

Yeah it's the ruckus clone, the new carb came with a new fuel filter. I've replaced the vacuum lines because they were crap. The fuel pump works fine. The intake is not cracked and I've done the "spray carb cleaner" to look for leaks. I'll pop the carb off tonight and compare the jet numbers to the old one. I cleaned the old carb but during the process of removing the mix plug my dumb ass drilled through the needle that's why I bought a new carb. I chucked the old filter because the plastic housing broke.

Well, one of the good things about the ruckus clone is there's nothing to remove to get at the engine. It wouldn't hurt to try the external tank. But if all the stuff you tried is right I'd check the valves. I've seen it before.

I'll have to look the procedure up but I've done it a few times on my klr650 so it can't be that difficult.

"my dumb ass drilled through the needle" -Ooops, done crap like that myself. A hand held drill is dangerous. A drill press is much better, especially if the depth stop is set. Don't ask how many times it took me to learn these simple facts. Jet numbers -vary-... The OEM carb jets may not even be marked and the markings may be meaningless. The OEM air filter setup acts like a 'choke' and enriches the A/F mix. Scoot carbs are very sensitive to that air intake restriction for operation. In my opinion scoot carbs and intake systems are really forked up.
