Hi everyone. I bought a used 2014 tao tao new speed 50 last week with 1900miles and today it died on me and I could use a little help. I have been trying to find an electrical checklist but cant seem to find one on the site. If there is one I would appreciate a link.
This morning my headlight was out and the front ledstrips were flashing! High beam worked for all of 10 seconds. I got to work but the bike spattered (misfired) a couple of times and died once. It started right back up and I made it to work. Opened up the light and it was burned out and cracked. Got a new one but it did not light and half the left ledstrip was flashing and the right was dead. So diagnosis I have an electrical problem. Any ideas or a checklist would be great on trying to find the culprit.
On the way back the bike was misfiring alot and even backfired a few times both from the carb and from the exhaust. It died a few times on the road and eventually did not restart because of a dead battery. The battery died because I tried to restart is so many times.
So I have an electrical + misfireing problem which turned in to a will not start problem.
I plan on taking it apart in the morning and would appreciate some guidance.

Ok,I would check the stator out put. Look for any wires rubbed, grounded. Led lights? They are connected to the battery, dc right? And in my experience, the little round plastic things under the light bulbs disintegrate and wreak havoc.

Ok will do, Thanks, and yes it is a DC. Do you think the misfiring and backfiring are because of the electrical problem?

There is a wealth of information here. I would start by confirming the stator output.

Once on my SUNL I had a wire that somehow melted to the header. When I'd ride, the wire would swing and ground out. It did the same thing you describe.
The other day I realized that the aftermarket alarm I had installed was causing my GT5 to misfire. It was causing such chaos the carb would spray fuel backwards.
