Hi!
Since I bought my Kymco Super 8 4 stroke 50cc (bought it used for almost a year ago) I have noticed that when I press the start button the start motor slipps and I almost always have to release and press the startbutton again a few times for it to grip and turn the engine over. Have looked at the bendix gear and it looks fine.
Do I need to replace the startmotor to get rid of this problem?
Thanks!

A sound clip or vid would be helpful.
Just guessing but if its a grinding noise it could be the starter or bendix gears are worn. If you say its "slipping" it could be the bendix itself. They do have a "one way" bearing inside that could slip when worn.

They can also slip if the internal sprag "grabbing" fingers/rollers get oily. I'd suggest pulling the Bendix out and cleaning in mineral spirits or similar, blowing it dry with compressed air, and re-installing. I've had luck fixing my slipping Bendix that way. YMMV.

+1 bending, you could probably get one under $20 shipped.

Just cleaned the Bendix and now it slips much less.

Those pesky starter Bendix issues. They are the cause of many headaches, but are quite easy and cheap to replace. The spring in them usually is at fault as it weakens with time. I have replaced the spring in one with a similar one from Home Depot in the past with great results. It lasted a lot longer and didn't slip at all. Though worn teeth on the gear can cause slippage as well, in which case a new Bendix would be needed.
