I'm afraid i know the answer but would like to check for those in the know. I pulled a purple wire from my CDI, so it is now unrestricted. My Kymco boss has a shoulder on it, so another limiter. Derestricting the CDI now allows my scooter to go 33 mph, where it previously was going 28 mph. Is this because my my engine is now over-revving at an unhealthy pace? The speed is right where I want it to be... don't want to go faster, but will I be blowing up the motor in the near future? Should I reconnect the wire and either be happy with 28 mph... or I guess I could pursue the smooth boss solution, but understand to be safe I probably need to increase the main get from #75 to #82. I'd rather not go down this path.
Will my engine blow at 33 mph or does the limited speed from the boss limiter ultimately limit my revs?

The simple answer is yes.(if you a pegging wide open throttle and going down hill) Again the installation of a tachometer is recommended so you can monitor rpm's.
The restriction in the variator is holding back your top speed which can over rev your engine.
Ever ride a 10 speed bicycle ? Its easier to peddle in 1st gear than to peddle in 10th gear. In 1st gear you can peddle your butt off and get nowhere fast. Your variator restriction is keeping the cvt in the lower gear range and revving or over revving is giving you very little return when it comes to speed.
Derestricting a scooter is a multi tier process, just doing one thing will come back to haunt you in the long run.
Sounds like you want to go faster, but not willing to make the full commitment to do it right. You are better off leaving it stock and riding it the way it is and it will last longer.

Thanks for your input. Makes a lot of sense. I have now scoured the Kymco forums and came across some comments that the Kymco OEM CDI, when derestricted, actually still has a rev limiter... It is just increased from 7800 to 9000 rpm. I understand 9K rpm likely won't kill a 4 stroke stock engine... Maybe it will take some life off the back end years down the road. I still may pursue getting the smooth boss and #82 jet done based on the logic of your comments, but after my research am less concerned I'm facing imminent failure.
BTW. Speed limits in my town are 35mph, so little interest in having to go faster than right where I am at.
