A couple of weeks ago I picked up my first ever scooter and have run into a puzzling issue. The other day I was riding it home and it suddenly started making what can best be described as a plastic screeching noise intermittently from the front end.
It sounded like plastic rubbing on a wheel but when I stopped and checked there was no plastic rubbing on anything that I could see.
There was no vibration or other accompanying sensation that might help identify the source just an intermittent and irregular noise.
The only thing I did notice is that there is a small drum with a cable going into it that looked like maybe a speedometer connection that would twist back and forth in line with the wheel for an inch in either direction. Its a Chironex Vinny 50 with disk brakes so I know its not a brake drum and I don't remember if that part was mobile before the noise or not. The frequency of the noise didn't seem to be impacted by accelerating or braking and the speedo was stable and not jittery at all as I would expect it to be if there was an issue with the connection.
Anyone got any ideas?

It could be a number of things. Brakes, speedo puck, wheel bearings, or something rubbing or loose. Try to get someone to sit one the scooter while on the center stand(lifting front wheel off the ground) and spin the front wheel. You could remove the speedo puck and/or disc caliper and do the above mentioned. If it still makes noise its could be the wheel bearing. I also wouldn't rule out the brakes, I had a scooter that made noise when the brakes were applied to not. It went away when I removed the caliper. I never really figured it out. It only went away when I sold the scooter. j/s
