so learning a lesson the hard way. Went to the beach and got caught in a storm, the bike and carb area got pretty wet and then was hard to keep running after. Whenever coming down on throttle towards where normal idle was it would die out. It's been harder starting and harder to keep running. I thought maybe just the idle screw slipped so I tightened it down which is helping the bike stay running but it is not running as well as it was. If I back off the throttle then give it some gas it bogs before going. Running around at higher rpms it seems pretty good but maybe running a little higher than normal or where it was. Sometimes getting stuck in higher rpms at idle too which is a little dangerous when you put it on kickstand its behaving a bit like it did before i adjusted the valves, but I am just wondering if they could have slipped or is there something else wet, shorted etc? its a 13' taotao bws 50

Well.... Mechanical adjustments usually don't slip or move just because they get wet so 'adjusting' things usually makes situations worse. Your air filter may be wet. Replace it or dry it out. 'Unmake' your adjustments as well as you can. Water can sometimes enter the fuel tank. Add 1/8-1/4 bottle of 'Heat" to the fuel tank. Check your fuel filters.

If you have an aftermarket free-flow air filter, they usually need replacing after getting them wet, most are made of paper.

Ok it's a stock filter in box so hard to see how it could get wet also on the side of the bike that was not getting wet, we live in tropics so it comes in sideways off the ocean a lot. Going to pop open the cover and check it out soon, will pick up some heet this week and see if that does it.
It's been harder to start than usual lately and doesn't want to idle itself until it's warmed up, once warm it has this weird feeling like no juice till you hit a certain mark on the throttle and then it gives a lot of juice.

The rain follows the air into the filter. It will get wet. Scoot carbs and filters are a piss-poor design.

Right thank you, agreed with that would be a fun project to work on designing them from scratch. Lotta practical ideas can be input to update design. LIke on the scooter I have why on earth didn't they make the access hatch inside the seat so you can actually pull and work on the carb? As it is you can barely adjust the idle screw.... There's hardly any advantage to it being there. But cut it out another 2-3 inches back and you can pull the whole carb out without taking the entire seat housing and multiple plastics off..... dread to try and upjet this thing lol.

I run a ruck-style almost naked scoot. I hate dealing with plastics.
