I was wondering what were the best performance upgrades that you have done to your scooter that would be worth it for me to do... i want this thing to be fast

Basic intro questions. How much do you know about engines? Are you mechanically inclined? What is your definition of "go fast?" And how much do you want to invest to improve its performance?
There are a lot of tech articles here that cover basic how to diy, brent's super-detailed projects on 2 and 4 strokes, and lots of examples from other members on their go fast scooter improvements. If you want it, we have info on it. Let us know where you want to start

I know a decent amount about engines, i am very mechanically inclined, and by go fast I mean better acceleration and a little bit more top speed

My Dongfang is exactly like the Taotao ATM 50.
The best improvement for a stock scooter is carb tuning (usually a larger main jet because a stock carb is jetted lean. I ran a #78 main jet and a #32 or #31 Pilot jet).
Also, is tuning the CVT. in my Sunny DF50STE thread I go through how I tuned the CVT. By tuning the CVT I got up to 42mph with a stock motor. Basically, my goal was to keep the variator from reaching full travel until 25mph. Stock it would fully open at 15mph and the engine would really work to accelerate any faster. By putting in lighter rollers in the variator along with a stiffer contra spring in the clutch assembly, I did get it tuned so the variator fully opens at 25mph and the engine is in it's powerband so it continues to accelerate to 35mph with no difficulty. Stock engine I could maintain 32mph+ into a strong wind, I didn't slow down that much going uphill.
There are threads in the Tech section on how to tune a CVT.
