It appears "bucket" no longer allows 3rd party links UNLESS I pay their $399.00 membership/ransom? Can anyone confirm this?
Is there an alternative?

I noticed the pictures earlier today but mine didn't have the 3rd party warning then, now it does. I never got any email or anything indicating an issue. That kinda sucks. There are other options I just have so many pictures on "bucket". Hmmm...

Wow even images in threads have the warning. I'm actually kind of pissed now.

Maybe I'd pay if it was a reasonable rate but that should be the lifetime fee. Now to try to get my pictures out of the bucket to another source. BTW I did just now get a email notification saying some features have been restricted.

That's bull s#! t. All the threads I have pictures in. I don't move them around in folders so I don't crash a thread and now they are all gone. I've got the originals but every picture I've posted just became useless. I don't have a clue where they all are. What a huge pain in the ass. What do we do now. I sure as hell am not paying 400 in ransom

I would love to get all of my pictures off of Photobucket now. If I click on it to copy to move to a different source I just get that default image. WTF!

Why aren't you guys using imgur in the first place? It's much better imho. I see ryan changed his but here's for oldgeek and moofus: (imgur links for your avatars) i.imgur.com/wfmVjFJ.png

I noticed the avatar earlier and thought it was just the old bandwidth limit. They have had a bandwidth limit for years, which is why I've been paying $25/yr for a better plan. Mine is Plus 20, which I just renewed a few months ago luckily. I'm just gonna take a wild guess that on my next renewal they'll try to hit me with the $400/yr nonsense and I will cease you use their service. Photobucket used to be quite good. In recent years, they have created a lagfest. Even with what used to be a premium account, they hit me with ads. Just last week I lost a long post about the lathe showing up because their ads froze up flash player while I was finishing the post.
This is sad. I'm trying to run a forum and I can't pay them $400/year. I can't imagine many people just wanting to post have any desire to.
Worst of all, is this sounds like ransomware. Basically they have all of your photos and you have to pay them for access. If they at least let you access them, it wouldn't seem so damn dirty.
I'm not really sure who the best is now, because I've used photobucket almost exclusively for more than 10 years.
Just a tip so you don't have to look alike : You should be able to upload avatars to proboards.
EDIT : With more searching, some are saying it's a bandwidth usage issue and it may be temporary. If that's the case, July 1 you should see your pics again... at which time you should consider grabbing your pics and taking them elsewhere. Others say it's the TOS and it's not going to change. Their site looks like it won't, but then I'm not sure what the temporarily bit is about unless they're expecting you to pay their ransom.

So what would it take to host pictures for a site like this?
A server with a couple terabyte drives raid. Linux? or just a Network Attached Storage box. A internet connection 2meg up. static IP address? A place to physically have the server?
Or what does it cost to rent server space now days?
This has to be doable. My pictures are small in size, usually around 30Kb purposely to shorten load time for everyone. It is nice to have high res pictures but just not necessary in MOST cases.

I just use godaddy. 100GB storage and unlimited bandwidth for $8/mo. That's what I'll be switching my pics to. I assume you need a domain to use it. It's not user friendly with FTP or through their site like a hosting site is. I really don't know anything about servers and have no desire to get into that. A friend used to run a server for his forum so that anyone could upload pics and he had issues with porn and all sorts of liabilities.
I keep higher res copies, but only upload 800x450 in most cases to cut back on load time and storage.

I use imgur for small uploads, things like showing people pictures online etc. and I use flickr for my photography uploads.

Surely they can't be serious, $400 a year! Not many people are going to pay that.
